Wickes / Drivers Direct - Northampton

hi all

due to several reasons, I have finished with uniloads and have moved to northamptonshire.
the local rag had an advert in tonight for a ‘new diy’ contract. rang them up, and i’m going for an interview tomorrow for a cl.2 delivery driver. in a nutshell it will be going to peoples homes with a drivers mate and delivering items. £9ph with wickes from a depot at brackmills.
has anyone got any experience of drivers direct agency or wickes? any thoughts?

thanks

Simon

I’ve done something similar on agency. You’ll build up the muscles doing that work though

Good luck. You’ll no doubt be doing the handballing yourself with your DM helping you…

I was based out of rugby and in a couple weeks of this was getting really fit, lost a couple stones the works… But it was hard work!

thanks mate I’ll keep u informed

When i did a few weeks free lance in 98 I drove for Wickes of Northampton a few times, the first three were class 1 out of the distribution centre to stores, this was quite good. One day they asked me to do what you are talking about with a rigid and a mate. It was ******* hard work :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: and when I phoned them to say I was out of time at Thurrock truck stop and got a room for both of us they went beserk, they expected me to just out another card in and run bent. I never went there again. It’s ok if you want to break your back for 20 hours a day.

Hi Si

Class2 drivers are on @£88 per shift full time, £2 per drop bonus, £17.50 night out and expences covered in the following week’s pay packet. 4 out of 7 days on a 10 week rota. No bank holidays and sat/sun is a normal day. Overtime is at standard rate except for extra shift on sun when you get £20 more. Agency drivers get more for shift but no bonus (usually advertising £100 per shift for weekday)

The work is all handball and it is into domestic property, which can be a variety of assault courses. If you can’t comfortably manage carrying 40kg then maybe the job isn’t for you.

My best day was about 4.5 hrs which worked out about £20 per hour inc bonus but I’ve also done 15 hr days which work out about £5.40 pre hour - that’s on 7.5’s.

I;ll PM you my number, give me a shout if you want more info

cheers

Jules
