Why no LHD/RHD truck

It could be possible to make a cab that has both left hand and right hand drive by having the seat to slide over to which country you are in,or even in the middle, and your choice when reversing, the cab controls and dash could slide left and right as well.
The safety benefits,i see daily, foreign trucks, and a car that has sat beneath the drivers blind side and been expected to be seen in the blind spot when they have not,the same for the UK driver when he/she is abroad.
There are plastic stick on convex mirrors that go in the passenger window, the ferry firms used to give them out for free at Dover.
Another option, all around view of the whole truck with cctv,so the driver can see behind and all the danger spots.

In certain types of Unimog you could change it from RHD to LHD in a matter of minutes.

IIRC, the steering column, pedals and instrument binnacle were a complete unit so it could be detached and re attached into position. And, if you took the whole thing with you, it made the perfect anti theft device.

Road sweeper :bulb:

ERF made a dustcart that had the steering wheel in the middle.

Correct.

Then there are the French wagons that carry steel pipes, where the cab is in the middle of the wagon and allows a shorter wagon wothout compromising some loading space.
