So then…whats the best truck sat nav to buy, oh and…why did i get a infringement for driving for 9 hours thats the law yeah.
Bewick:
I’ve been wanting to “unload” on all these [zb] “Guests” for a while so I suppose something snapped tonight so why don’t they either put up or [zb] off and if I upset the Mods so be it ! This is a great site for those of us who have worked in the transport industry for many years and enjoy all the “craic” and banter even if some of it is “near the bone” and not PC but the PC brigade can [zb] off as far as I’m concerned because unless the 50’s/60’s and 70’s were not the era for you, you will never know what you missed so rev up and [zb] off ! Cheers Bewick.
That could be your best post ever Dennis ,i agree !
Oh and welcome TheNewBoy !
Is it wrong for people who like the looks of the old time trucks and the stories but are in a different job sector and thus dont really have anything worth contributing. most people are told if they dont have anything good to say then dont say anything. i guess like me there are alot of people who love the stories about adventure and dont want to get negative replies,
i guess i better leave then
But then some of the guests may be members but not logged in. Like I was then until I decided to post this and realised that I couldn’t.
I think Bewick has a good point. It’s either “Use it or loose it.” The same as restaurants at truck stops; with so many drivers self-catering in their cabs and just using the toilets, a lot of restaurants can’t make it pay and close for good. Making more drivers fix food for themselves. Trucknet could be going the same way. It doesn’t hurt to offer encouragement and say " Thanks for posting." Even if you haven’t been in the industry.
.
Guilty as charged M’lud. I’ve been a member for a number of years now, but commonly just “look in” to see anything new (eg. that excellant thread by Paul Gee’s mate). I will mend my ways. Jim.

No, its not at all wrong for people to view the threads “Del-rider”. I appreciate that not everyone can
contribute much, but even a thankyou if you are particularly enjoying a thread shows that people are
enjoying the forum.

You have just summed it up to perfection Jim ! I posted new pics yesterday morning on the Paul Gee’s
thread and it had 684 views by last night ! But only 1 person Bubbs left a message/comment ■■?
Not impressed.
Maybe we need one of those ‘Thumbs Up’ agree, ‘Thumbs Down’ disagree thingies so that people will join in just to stick two fingers up to some of the member for Leatherheads comments.
Couple of points I would like to raise on this subject.
Despite my best efforts to work round it the “stay logged in function” refuses to work for me on the T/net site. It may be happening to other users as well. So despite taking an interest in the ramblings we appear as guests.
Perhaps some of us involved in the industry, either now or in the past just didn’t have the exciting lives and experiences that others appear to have had.
Personally I was born into the job in the early fifties but got out altogether at the age of 40 in the early nineties. We had a fleet of 20 / 30 but they were mostly six wheel tippers on local work and there wasn’t much excitement doing timework day in day out for Gateshead Council.
Perhaps if they had been Scania 140’s or F10’s running onto the Continent I may have had a few more tales to tell.
As a business we only ever signed one contract for one vehicle on permanent hire to a Tarmac subsidiary.
Most of the other work we did was local livestock or domestic solid fuel (local coalman to people my age and older) again not very exciting.
I have posted nearly all the photos I have of times past, my Father (who was Tyneside area RHA Chairman at the time of the drivers strike) had a lot more, including some 8mm cine film, but due to a very acrimonious family split when he died I could not get access to his house for nearly twelve months and when I did eventually get access other ***!!“”'s had destroyed the lot.
Never the less I agree with the “use it or lose it” philosophy so will endeavour to try to get out more and take some photos to post on here.
I like and try to join in on topics I’ve had some experience in but unfortunately they get hijacked by a certain member who ruins it for the majority
Hi,
I joined a while ago now, but have never posted. After passing my class 2 I would come here looking for answers to newbie questions and my questions were always covered somewhere in the forum so didn’t need to ask. Now I come here out of interest and curiosity and not always signed in.
I think it’s about time I started to post and get involved,
Also, thanks for all the advise I have read over the years, 9 times out of 10 when I ask Google, trucknetuk comes out best for the answer.

Welcome “Ferg82”. Look forward to your posts ! Never be afraid to ask questions ! Someone will know the
answer.
While I don’t come on as a guest I must admit to not posting a lot. By the time I have read through the topics I am interested in,the good stuff and the going on for ever bits (not that CF should’nt have his say just that he does go on) I have had enough of the screen. But will try to improve. Mike
We haven’t heard much of t’owd lad recently (Mr Gill), I hope he and his good lady are ticking over nice and smooth.
Now me being an old lecher I spent a good hour yesterday sat outside the pub, enjoying a pint, and watching the young ladies go by dressed in very provocative attire.
Think im another one whos been a member for ages and never says anything , I really enjoyed the Lincolnshire thread but it seemed to end badly so been a bit wary since . will try harder in future , regards Geoff
Me I didn’t know those stats n sort of kept quiet so I wasn’t hogging the show

Having just said that there’s been times I’ve asked what I think is a valid question n never heard a peep from anyone
well ■■? where to start. I’m not young but definitely still green so any advice I might think I could offer would very likely be flawed so I tend to keep my thoughts to myself. as for joining in with the craic as provided by the likes of Bewick and his gang ,it can at times appear to be a bit closed shop (probably totally unintentional ) so rather than appear to put my nose where it isn’t wanted I simply read the posts and enjoy them for what they are . some times amusing ,often informative and occasionally over the top of my head . but Bewick is right the bulk of posts do tend to be made by the same members , its usually those same members who take the time and effort to welcome new members and answer what some might consider silly questions , thank you for that. as for us “lurkers” , we must start making a effort and contribute to what is the “community” called trucknet . there now ive made a start
Now there you are “Syromax” it wasn’t that hard now was it ! If I were you I’d just fire away with your questions which may get the answer you are looking for or sometimes not but believe me there are a good number of very knowledgeable members from all sections of the past and present transport industry on this site and unfortunately a number that are now sadly RIP Cheers Bewick.
Well Dennis your question has brought 3 or 4 guests into the mix and good on them for joining in. Welcome to you and looking forward to your contributions.
