Why are so many

of the people that post on here blind to the facts. One guy states that the cost of living in Canada is cheap. He says houses are cheap. He says that crime is low.Car insurance is cheap.WOW!The average cost of a house in Toronto is over $300,000.The average driver makes $14 an hour.Do the math.Toronto newspapers regularly bemoan the fact that Toronto is becoming like US cities with its spiralling gun crime.Car insurance is so high that the province regularly threatens to strictly regulate the industry. No one in Toronto gets car insurance for $400 a year, what I pay for my insurance. There is no such thing in Canada as free prescriptions or affordable dental care. They continue to ignore the fact that these trucking jobs are available in Canada because CANADIANS DON’T WANT THEM!!! They are horrible.I recommend people watch the documentary that is on tonight on Current. It’s called Lawless Truckers. It’s all about the North American trucking industry and how bad it looks in the public eye.How truckers work to the point of exhaustion trying to make a living. For some reason certain people on here such as bobthepoodle try to hide the facts.I am trying to wake people up that are thinking of moving to Canada to drive a truck.Dont do it!!!Why are they constantly comparing the Canadian to the British trucking industry, that is a totally seperate debate. If it’s no better or worse, thats fine.At least these people did not move to a foreign country and then try to pretend that all is well. You are not being welcomed to Canada with open arms because you bring a valuable skill to the marketplace. You are nothing more than a warm body to fill a seat in a cab that no one else wants.I have noticed that they also constantly insult the person that posts on here if they dont like the message. That unfortunately is truly the proof in what I say. They hire the less intelligent, easily moulded gullible people to pack their bags and move to a barren, cold ,windswept country for peanuts. What more can I say other than DONT DO IT
!!!

You are really an spokesperson for wewantyou2drivehere4peanuts.uk right you have no idea do you. Well mentally deprived one
how are you at math ? 8hrs times 60 times.40. When I went to school that was 24.00 or $24.00 per hour. Don’t know where you get 14 from that is city dray wages, not long haul. Doing your runs using US log regs you can go 10hrs a day and never run out of hours and need a reset. What part of my last post did you not understand ? It is all there. Who in their right mind would want to live in TORONTO. Tell me what the crime rate is in say in Boisivain MB, or Weyburn Sk, or Steinbach MB. You don’t have a clue do you. What is the crime rate in London compared to say Montreal. When was the last time you heard of a car bomb going off in Vancouver? What would your income/expenses be per month in say Yorkshire, how does that compare to say Winnipeg. For health and dental I paid a total of 193.00 for 10 months coverage the company paid the rest. Don’t know where you get dental work done but you cant get a temp crown for that. Prescriptions well guess again Manitoba does have a prescription plan as well 80% of the cost of meds are covered by the group health. You don’t care to read what data other post because it proves that your selective facts are about as good as the person who posts them, basically totally useless. What happened you came over to work didn’t check out everything first got stuck in Toronto moving furniture now you are down on everything because you didn’t have the brains to check before you came. Not everyone is as simple minded as that. Do you know what happened here in the late 1980-1990s the railroads shut down a very large number of their branch lines, towns and cities no longer have direct rail access. How the hell do you think they now get what they need by donkey cart. By truck you mental midget, and with limited numbers of qualified drivers here, what is the best solution ? Well normally you go about to get qualified drivers from elsewhere, why not good stout Anglo-Saxon stock, or European, where there are already a great number here and they will not have a language or culture problem like so many others. The fact is the demand for drivers keeps increasing and the number of young people who wish to have this type of life just are not around. Kids today want 9 to 5 jobs with hour lunches and half hour coffee breaks, where they can stay indoor when it is too cold or too hot. You have not even the slightest clue about how the world of business works, I tried to show you a bit but went right through nothing to even slow it down. How many Canadian banks needed a bailout ? None. Why ? How many Canadian financial institutions are near collapse, None. 3 years ago you had a house valued at $156,000 here in Winnipeg today its value is around $170,000. Our housing market did not collapses like a deck of stacked cards. Why because we don’t take mental midgets like you we would rather have intelligent hard working people who prefer to give their families a better life. Stay where you are we dont want you here period.

Hi Robbie.

I have to disagree with you, sorry. Just for the record I am a dual Canadian & UK Citizen, as are my kids.

I live and work in the UK because I want to, and because the work that I do isn’t viable in Canada due to the population dispersal. That is to say, in Canada, there are not enough people within a reasonable travelling time to provide me with enough work to maintain my living standard, if I kept to my chosen career. The only exceptions would be Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal. The problem with those places is that I don’t want to live or work in a big city.

In the UK, because the place is heaving with people just about everywhere, I can find enough work to live comfortably without living in a city, or working in any big cities. I work as a service engineer to hairdressing salons. I hold a C + E UK licence as a spare string to my bow in case the service business ever failed. I will be letting my HGV licence lapse though now the dcpc is coming in as I don’t figure the cost is worth the benefit to me.

My kids were all born in the UK but also have dual citizenship. 3 of my 4 kids have moved to Canada and work as truck drivers but for decent companies. They all say they intend to remain in Canada permanently as they prefer the life out there. 2 of my sons work for FedEx in Edmonton but live about 20 Kms east of the city out in the sticks on an acreage, the other son lives on the south side of Edmonton and works for a distributer in the north of the city. Their living standard is better than it was in the UK, although they complain that groceries are expensive. Mind you they have expensive tastes when it comes to food. The cheap stuff was never popular in our house.

When I retire I may also move back to Canada simply to get away from this overcrowded island. I favour returning to Vancouver Island but not to Victoria.

So, Robbie, your experience of Canada isn’t the same as mine or my family’s. Could it be you that didn’t make the grade?

As usual Brentanna or bob the poodle has to get nasty like a 5 year old calling someone names.Obviously Manitoba has a cheaper cost of living than Toronto. Why?Very few people actually want to live there.Winterpeg is the coldest city in the world. That is a fact.Who cares if Canadian banks did not need a bailout. What has that got to do with trucking.Just to make a point.Canadian banks charge far more in service fees than British banks. That’s a fact.I dont care if you are now Captain Canada and hate everything British. You were a failure here and ended up in a terrible job that no one there wants.Face the facts.By the way some simple math for you.OTR trucks in North America travel at an average speed of 45 mph.Times the average 40 cents=$18 an hour.Take away the fact no OT is paid even at hour number 84 which is the Canadian draconian legal limit you are now at $14 an hour and you get the privilege of sleeping in your truck and never seeing your family.Face the facts .WARNING:Stay away from Canada if you are driving a truck for a living.I cannot emphasise it enough.Do not listen to people like the poodle. They hate our British way of life and do their best to undermine it.It wont work.We live in the best place in the world and all your hatemongering wont change that!!!

rrooobbbbbiiee,as usual you arse backwards on the facts you present to this thread.Average house price in Toronto is $475000CDN,crime is almost non-existent in my town, costs me 800 bucks insurance for a new Jeep(no mot or road tax),prescriptions are covered by the company medical benefits as are 100% of our dental costs, paid overtime after 8 hours or weekends,I can’t be bothered to carry on.
Have you ever been to Canada? It’s a large country with lots of opportunities for people willing to better their lifestyles.Idiots aren’t tolerated and generally fail(if the cap fits etc etc).Anyhow, enough of your rubbish I’m enjoying a cold beer with the wife infront of a blazing fire and big screen tv,in our house with no mortgage. What’s it like in Glasgow ?

Robbbieeee you are not a driver, I have spent more time on US interstates than you obviously, 45 applies if you are running in Ontario regional but most american interstates are 65 to 70. Unless I have alot of drops in a city my average is 60 but then we are paid for each drop in addition to our miles. As for sleeping in the truck, well I had a Volvo lots of room, if I wanted to soak in a tub, rented a hotel room for the night, showers are free when you fuel your truck, most places you also get a free cup of coffee. Most truck stops have nice driver lounges where you can watch a match, or movie make tele calls, you know what the web camera and live chat is for it is for talking to the one’s back home, seeing and talking to your kids wives, husbands boyfriends ect. YOU COULD NOT MAKE THE GRADE, YOU WERE A FAILURE< GET OVER IT. No point in coming on here and spouting off. IF there are drivers who want to come over, but want to see what they are getting into first, Pauly and I would have no troubles putting them up for a few days. I am sure there are other drivers here that would help out. I have a very nice flat, with parking and utilties it is $662.00 per month. My car insurance is $97.00 per month I have $50.00 deductable and glass coverage, drive a 1997 Mustang Cobra Convertable and I live in the city. Would you stop spouting off about Ontario in all your “facts” , there are 9 other provinces, and 2 territories. Normal people who move to Ontario and drive dont live in Toronto they live in the lake district, on acerages. The worst thing is the high cost for groceries, but hey you dont have to eat steak and mashed every night, but you can if you want. Oh and the coldest in fact is Alert NWT check for yourself in winter you cant shut down any motor for more than a minute. Jet aircraft dont even shut down.
PS even at 45 you said it yourself $18.00 NOT $14.00 you would most likely get a talking to about why it is taking so long for you to do your runs but hey you like to do 45 ave go for it. I want time off all I have to do is tell my dispatch drive my rig right to my door, I have parking for it too, with 53 attached. I have a really nice 28 ft motorhome plant it out at the lake for the summer, or run it to the interior of BC for the summer. Didnt do that this past summer it sat in the parking lot at work. Year before it was in Arizona. Nothing like a home away from home especially when this kind of weather hits. So what nice sub tropical place do you have your motorhome ? We have a place in PV Mexico as well a block from the marina, Febuary is really nice, temps in the mid 20’s cool mild nights. White sandy beaches. Yup really ■■■■■ to be slaving it here in Canada.

First of all, who would want to move to Toronto?

The price I stated for my house was the price I paid, $148000. That is for a 5 bedroomed place on 10 acres. I am on a school route which means the road is ploughed and maintained. My property tax bill was $978 for the year.

I have no idea where you get your “facts” from, but the sunday sport sounds about right to me. See, it doesn’t matter that it gets cold here. If it is cold then you put on a coat and hat. At least, when the snow flies, the entire country doesn’t stop overnight and the government doesn’t need to implement legislation to allow drivers to work longer hours for crap pay like they do in the UK.

You 45 mph average is total nonsense. When I was at BFS, the lifetime average speed for C528, usuing the hours meter on the vehicle, was 51 mph, and when you factor in that it was limited to 60mph and then factor in that this was for the engines entire lifetime, that is a good average. I wonder what the average speed is in the UK?

Why do I insult you?

Because you post stupid nonsense and you post with the attitude of a wet cat. I have no idea if you have ever been here, but I suspect that you have not. If you have been here then you were clearly not up to the job and should deem the failure as yours and not Canada’s.

Get over yourself. Go find someone who will listen to you. I would suggest carryfast, but I think you would even irritate him.

I touched a nerve he came over without checking on anything ended up with a regional load haul in Ontario for peanuts, now he is upset and lashing out at everything North American. Thats why he doesnt have a clue, he didnt drive long haul he got stuck in a regional haul job. Says I am hate mongering actually just pointd out that he is a mental midget, mentally deprived, and an Idiot ot genus in France. Robbbieeeee get your facts straight stop acting like a child who didnt get candy while out with mommy shopping and everything will be good.

I dont know where rooooobbbbbbbbbbbbieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee gets his information from…

I am living cheaper and better here than i ever could back in the UK as a driver.
I am on $20.14 an hour until i reach 40 hrs a week, anything over 40 is time and a half, with double time after 60 hours.
My rent including utilities (bills) is $800 a month, and I live with my brother and his wife and kids, in a huge log cabin on an acerage with 3.5 acres of land. It takes me a good 2 hours to cut the grass using my sit on lawn mower which has a 48" cutting deck. The same lawn mower can be fitted (and currently has it fitted) with a snowblade, so I can clear my driveway in the winter.
I drive a 2002 GMC Envoy, fully loaded with dvd player, bose sound system, the works.
I would never be able to afford these luxuries on the wage i was earning back home. which was 7 pounds an hour… currently equates to $11.02 at today exchange rate. my mortgage alone back in the uk was 500 pounds a month. which is $787.14 , this was for a small 1 bedroom flat, with no land at all. I could only afford cheap second hand cars, I couldnt afford anything nice at all.

I work for FedEx Express, as mentioned above by my father, and love every minute of it. I am always treated with respect, and people regard FedEx as a good company with a good reputation. We ranked 23rd on the top 50 best employers in Canada for 2011.
My truck will go 120 if i want it to, most of the time I dont, as I am hourly paid, its counter productive to get done too early

I get a decent benefits package from work, where 90% of my prescription costs are covered until i hit $2000 anything over is covered 100%. Dental work I have 80% coverage upto $2500 a year. thats $2500 after you have paid your 20%. My Car insurance only costs me $140 a month, and thats with me being classed as a new driver here, even though i have been driving since I turned 18, im 32 now.

Also as an FYI , we have a waiting list to become a truck driver at fedex, thats because once your in with us, you never want to leave.

So yet again we have another expat who is happy.

Now we are all in the wrong, obviously. According to the self professed “expert” we are all mugs.

I am glad you are not here, roooooooobbbbbiiiiiiiiieeee (did I spell it right). You really would never make any sort of grade, would you…

Robbie, why are you still doing this troll thing?..It is just not working for you is it pet? You are just crashing and burning every time you start yet another anti Canada thread. The problem for you seems to be that you are trying to lecture people who have been trucking in Canada for several years and also the UK for many more years before that. You on the other hand seem to have next to no experience at all.
You keep squeaking on about Britain being the best place to work in the world and i admire your resolute patiotism.
I drove a truck in the UK for 15yrs before i emigrated and i love Britan but to be honest i could never muster your level of enthusiasm. The whole country is totaly over populated resulting in chronic road congestion and the crime rate is out of control. I think the British tabloids usualy describe it as “broken Britain”. Facilities for drivers are absolutely shocking and drivers get treated with total contempt by everyone from the workers at RDC’s to the staff at horrible motorway services . This not simply my opinion but hard and cold fact. If you want to dispute it just read all the threads on the UK profesional drivers forum.
When i first walked into a truckstop over here i could not believe my eyes after the dire experiences i was accustomed to back in the UK.
My advice to you would be to give up on your ridiculous crusade because it is just not working out and the more daft statements you make, the more you discredit yourself.
For example what is the point in saying that the average speed of a longhaul truck over here is 45mph? My Pete is wide open and can cruise at over 80mph. I usualy discipline myself to about 65mph and most of my time is spent on the interstate so my daily average is around 55-60mph. When you make statements like that it just proves that you are making things up to manufacture a point.
