White in Monmouth

Hi, I wonder if anyone remembers a silver/grey coloured White truck that used to park in Monmouth in about the late '70’s. I got a feeling that the firm was from Newport, maybe running scrap possibly. There was also a Scammell Crusader that used to park up just off the Monmouth roundabout on Dixon lane, used to have photo’s of that, but all gone now…

The White truck belonged to ‘Ollie Huish’ (not sure of the spelling) from Newport running containers for Bell’s, not scrap as I first thought , but the Crusader was running scrap. If anyone out there knows anything about ‘Huish’ eg; where they were based or what other trucks they had etc. I’m fairly sure that someone fitted a sleeper to it at some stage. But that’s all I can remember…

Hi Paul, I used to work with Ollie Huish in Penhow quarry for Tarmac Topmix when he was owner driver on a concrete mixer. He had a Ford Cargo reg B906 VJA and his son had a DAF running out of Penhow quarry for a spell. Cheers Ian

E&A Sayce of Monmouth i think had a White Road Commander YBK 390V a 6x2 conversion it pulled tanks of bitumen out of Cinderford

Just wondered whatever happened to Ollie Huish?. And the other query, Someone out there must remember the red Scammell Crusader that regularly parked just off the Monmouth roundabout in the mid-late '70’s, I think it caught fire one night and was never seen again…
