Which sat nav?

Hi all, first time I’ve been here and sorry I know this has been asked before. I’m gonna get a truck specific sat nav, lookin at Tomtom 5150 or Snooper 8000.
Currently a Tomtom user tho it bout 8 yr old and a car version.
Any advice / problems with either would b much appreciated ?

I currently use a TomTom 5150 as I can also use it in my car if I need to. I went for it cos of the lifetime map update and also the fact that it has Live functions. So you can search google for places that maybe don’t postcode up so well.

Only downside, and I daresay they’re all the same, is that sometimes the height limits, weight limits or whatever, are not programmed in, so you still have to use your eyes lol.

Luckily I only found this out as I came to leave a drop and it tried to send me a different way to what I already knew, and straight in front of me was a railway bridge that was about 4" too low for my truck lol.

So don’t take any of them for granted that they will tell you every restriction cos they won’t. Like they say, roads change all the time.

thanks dave, yeah I agree, computers good but eyes still need to be used as well !
my current TomTom IS a car one just set at 54mph and with a few truck downloads (mini roundabouts, bridge heights etc) but I only use as a guide rather than rely on.
Just thought be better to have truck specific and narrowed it down to these two.
With the 5150 do I have to pay subscription to any of the features and do you know how much please?

Hi, I’m also thinking off the Tom Tom 5150, snooper s5000/s8000.

Got a 5150, as I’ve nearly always been a TomTom user, so I am familiar with their platform.

TBH, there’s not much in it as far as truck sat navs go, and some people swear by these Chinese type ones which are a fraction of the price.

The live services that come with the 5150, are valid for 12 months from the date of activation, and are subscription based thereafter, but do keep an eye out for discount codes when renewing, as it can bring the price down dramatically.

I also find the TT speed cameras to be a bit hit and miss, so I use the PGPSW ones, of which I’m a lifetime member so get them free as a verified spotter. A friend of mine uses a Snooper, and he asked them how they got their speed camera database, to which they eventually replied that it was submitted by a team of people that travel up and down the country, or in other words by a team of spotters, much the same way as the PGPSW one. So you pays your money… The TT live camera submissions are actually quite good, because if you spot a mobile camera in use, and submit it via the live services, it stays actively live for 3 hours. Very useful. The static ones are a bit hit and miss though.

You can update your old system foc, and even a car one can be upgraded to the truck software by hacking the new maps and Navcore from sites like GPS Underground or Navitotal. I’ve done it in the past on TT systems, and once you do it a couple of times, it’s fairly easy, but beware that some of the newer systems have yet to be hacked, but as most of the sat nav companies now offer lifetime map updates foc, so it’s hardly worth the effort now.

Current price is showing as £47.50 a year for LIVE (maps are free for life) but like Quinny said, you will usually get renewal discounts sent to you in emails to try and get you to keep buying their services. Usually gets you down to half price or thereabouts

Thanks guys. think i’m headin for 5150 as my old TT has developed some random faults n not sure how long it’ll last. appreciate the advice.

Got a cheapo lad from a fella on ebay. The biggest ball of ■■■■■ I’ve come across in years. Either buy a Garmin or a good map
