I’d be surprised if it’s analogue, most of their trucks are only 2 or 3 years old
well a bloke I used to work with does a night trunk from there to Birmingham every night & he drives a Merc unit with a double deck trailer, the sloping floor ones with the roller shutter door at the back
like this one:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=9t4FotgGGl0
double deck or single artic, no rigids ,and very few units left with analogue but units are from 65 reg down to 56 reg ,but a good firm to work for and the way they are going i think they will be the bigest parcel company soon ,they have just spent 100m on a new hub
Merc units with a fifth wheel that can be lowered or raised depending on whether they’re taking single deck or double deck trailers. Well maintained, serviced and repaired when needed to. What you’ll do is when you go to the hub and your unit is due a service they’ll give you a different one to go back in.
Used to be that you had to go to Smethwick to do a 5 day induction which included defensive and economic driving as well as the usual BS and you were put up in a decent hotel, paid night out money and they also paid mileage to go from home to Smethwick and back but that was some time ago so I don’t know if its the same.
They did have rigids and the one universal thing about all of them is that half or all of the synchros were missing in the gearboxes so be prepared to double clutch if they still use manuals.
conor
hotel induction corse still the same ,i have only ever seen 2 rigids and they are in birmingham but might be more about !
they have just bourt allot of new trailers and units 200 but still will keep the old stuff as well as they own everything !
for me i like the company but its not to everybodys taste but its a good job and pays well
Thanks all,
Looks like it is not clear what it might be: a manual rigid with an analogue tacho. Pretty sure i get the oldest and crappiest truck they have
so it appears to be a 55 plate 18t Axor with cassette type analogue tacho and straight six gearbox in average condition. As mentioned artics are Actros’s in nice condition
I’m guessing no uk adverts/opportunities for driving these.

have not seen a DPD volvo there
Priest, I used to work there mate. Left two years ago, I’d had enough of driving like a nutter in a sprinter van just to keep up with the delivery times , it was an accident waiting to happen. Yes they have one 18t rigid merc axor 55plate, and 7.5t MAN’s for the parcel delivery. Good luck with that mate, it’s definitely a revolving door firm, drivers come and go all the time. The depot manager Simon has a canny resemblance to Ian Beale so try not to laugh in his face
. And the shift managers are all nice to your face one minute and then they get ■■■■■■ when you can’t get to your next del point at a certain time. Things might have changed since I left but your shift manager might be Jon, tall lanky ok guy. Dave, short gobby good for a laugh. Kirsty, short power freak, don’t trust her. It was half 7 starts for us sprinter drivers but for you might be different, and your usually out til the same time most nights! Everything is hand balled even lorry drivers have to load up in morning, it was fun fighting for a space on a bay, you’d go get your van and someone else would jump in, not a good move
. I’m not trying to paint a bad picture for you mate, just telling you how it was when I was there. But like I said I was there in a van, didn’t have my C licence then so you might experience things differently. Good luck mate. When do you start?
Regards

oih, cheers for the post mate.
i put my experience here if you fancy a read viewtopic.php?f=5&t=130632
when i turned up at 02:30am i reported to Phibian, but then there were another shift managers and i can’t remember their names.
I did no handball at all. Loaded at Dartford depot by a forkie, and at Chelmsford reversed on a bay and had a nap while they unloaded me. Seemed to be an easy job. I am not perm there, just replaced another agency driver who normally does that shift
But the van drivers are crazy indeed, the sight is tight but they still manage to race there
Omg Phibian, does he still stink of BO? Couldn’t stand near him for too long
Yeah I read just read that mate, nice one. Glad you had a good experience and well done with the reversing
Regards
