Which is it,4m or 16ft?

Sign on the way out of Swindon warning of low bridge on A320. Says 4m or 16ft.

Now if you convert 16ft to meters it’s 4.87 meters. Getting on for a whole meter higher than 4.

But convert 4m to ft and that’s 13ft 1.

So which is this bridge? 4m? 16ft? Or something completely different?

That’s odd…

There isn’t an A460 Swindon to Oxford road.

There’s the A420 which has Acorn bridge at 16" or 4.8 metres.

curioser and curioser

A420 …why does the sign say A460? Arched bridge at 16 foot at the apex, the sides of the laned carriageway are lower at 4m.

The signs beyond the roundabout correctly show A420 and also the bridge height as 16ft, 4.8m.

So basically the sign is a ■■■■ up? They’ve put the wrong road number on and the wrong metric/imperial conversion for the height limit?

Yes, wrong route number (should be A420; the A460 is outside Cannock, near Birmingham) and wrong unit conversion for the bridge height. I went through that bridge the other day; it’s 4.8m or 16ft.

Or a clever photoshop job!

Sorry, not photoshopped, just looked on streetview. 2 balls ups on one sign…never seen that before.

87 cms is 13 cms (or 13%) short of a meter… :unamused:

Is that a personal screen grab? Street view isn’t realtime. Wonder if they’ve corrected the road number? If not then you could report it. Not sure who, maybe to highways authority as the conversion is balls (I’ve not worked it myself to check - take your word for that) plus the wrong road number. A wrong sign is like a wrong clock, except it’s not even right twice a day

The numbers are all there, just all over the sign, no wonder all the Flip Flops get confused & keep hitting our bridges [emoji848]

Which isn’t too far off a meter! :unamused:

Never mind flip flops it makes it hard enough for the British drivers when you’ve got a discrepancy like that haha

To put it in context my truck is 13’ 11" or 4.25m so that sign in the metric is way out

That’s very close to the new Police Station. You would think one of them would have noticed…

Obviously the call of the doughnuts was too strong

Drove past the sign this morning. The road number has been corrected. The bridge heights are still conflicting.
