Which country has the money?

i am a class one driver…with many years experience behind me…i am in my early 40s now and don’t have alot to show for it…my kids are both grown up…and i’m looking to go overseas for a couple of years…to earn as much as i can…in the hope that i can come back to uk and buy my own house…can anybody recommend a country where drivers are needed and pay is top rate???i will go anywhere

UK & thats no joke. But if you want to put down roots in Canada or NZ then you would get more for your money. Emigrate with no thoughts of coming back here.

I agree, if it is cash you after, stay in UK!

You never be rich in New Zealand.

Depends how much ‘risk’ you want. Maybe there’s still some opportunities driving in some of the current ‘hotspots’.

Scandinavian countries earn more but pay 50% tax, so as the others say UK is the best…you would be better working here and living in an other country if you want to feel rich

lol

seems the going rate is NZ$20 an hour at most

But NZ seems to me like a nice place (going out there in feb/march?)

Are these guy’s still looking for drivers in Iraq
www.halliburton.com

jimti:

Are you sure about that?!

I couldn’t imagine going back to live in England.Everything is too expensive now. :open_mouth: When I first came to the US (1985) ,it was the other way round.

Haliburton is paying around $120,000 US for a one year contract driving in Iraq,
tax free if you stay for at least 120 days.Free accommodation I imagine.

With the exchange rate now it might not be worth it for UK drivers.

thankyou guys for your replies…i think UK seem to loom out at me as giving the best returns…so i think i’ll stick it out here…and ask TM for some continental work…so i can build up the overtime/night out money and increase my spendies that way…
as for the company that deal with iraq…i appreciate the response…but i did my spell in iraq during the first gulf war…back then i was young…and gung ho…i’m a bit more mature now and enjoy living…without a load of arabs wanting me dead…
thanks again to every body

Northampton, UK is best for the money. I have lived in France for over 5 years and have given up looking for a local job. I was originaly from Halifax but followed the crowd to Northampton about 4 yrs ago. Its not as good as it was but still the best paying place in Europe for agy as far as I can tell. Get yourself Ltd’d and get a bedsit down there. Now is the time to earn the money. If you want some info on agy’s here I can give you some details or look in www.truckstopnews.co.uk. Could also give you a couple of numbers for bedsits here.

I notice your based in preston. you wouldn’t do too bad working for the irish out of fleetwood docks. They don’t tell you how to do your job like the uk firms do. The wages are always a bit more than the rest of the UK. if you want any contacts let me know.

Longwayround:
tax free if you stay for at least 120 days.

I’m fairly sure that it is only tax-free if you spend less than 90 days in the UK. That is why most of the companies providing work opportunities in hotspots work a ‘9 weeks on, 3 weeks off’ pattern.

Big Truck:
drivers in Iraq

During a recent visit to Iraq I saw that virtually all of the truck drivers were from India, driving for Kuwait transport companies. The Kuwait drivers were paid much less than an average UK truck drivers wage, and the Indians that were working for them were getting less than half again!!! Evidently it’s still much better money that they can earn at home but certainly not enough to temp UK drivers.

It’s not just the transport bubble that has burst; the security/CP work has been affected also. Virtually all gun-trucks (private security companies) are now crewed by 1 x ex-pat with the remainder being one or two TNC (Philippines) and then local Iraqi’s.

Bear in mind, some of the CP lads are earning £7.5k per month, the TNC’s about £800 and the Iraqi’s around £300. Keeps the costs down and the profits up!!

Edit; spelling mistakes!

marcustandy, was ready to go after being contacted by ■■■,but deal fell through.
Third World country employees are a lot less expensive.
I.e. expendable.

I’m an agency driver ( 30yrs experience uk and europe ) working within a 10mile radius of south Leeds.I do no more than 50-55 hrs per week (nights) which might include a Saturday or a Sunday night, or both. I gross on average £700-£750 for that. My advice…stay here !!! and get a good accountant.

i quite agree chosen 1…u will never get rich in new zealand…there so backward there still on log books…

jimti is right , Norway pays great money for drivers , but just dont live there , live in truck and do international work , there tax man is a fanatic , if i was 10yrs younger thats where id be,

ive just done my first week in new zealand, its hard graft and your right, they are still on log books, its a hard day/nights drive around some scary roads, all for about $17 an hour which is about 6-7 quid an hour, not worth it id say but then im only here for the mrs and not for the work,id be happier if i had a different trade but then such is life and trucking ay

I’ve driven a lot of the roads in New Zealand in a motorhome and that was scary enough. Are you pulling 2 trailers? Most of the rigs i saw over there were. There was a road on south island that was absolutely terrifying. If you scare easy don’t even think about driving in New Zealand. You will need nerves of steal and a head for heights and i’ve heard the money crap before as well :frowning: I’m still gonna go for a couple of years eventually though for the experience. How’s this for an idea 6 months in Uk over spring summer then 6 months in New Zealand in their summer. Earn the money in the uk live the lifestyle over there! What do you think?
