Where would I find out to use a digicard?

OK. Here is the deal, I haven’t driven commercial vehicles for a while and last one was tachograph exempt vehicle. I have therefore never had anything to do with digicards.

Can someone point me to a half decent online tutorial showing how you actually use these things. I don’t have any idea how many types of devices there are out there, how they used, how the information is stored or recalled. I know I will have to purchase a card from DVLA if I need to drive a truck with a digital tacho…

Thanks…

They are free of charge with a licence, and very easy to work, but there may be a tutorial someone will be along soon to tell you all about it. If you havnt driven for a while, you will need a medical if your over 45, and every 5 yrs after that until you are 65 and then its done on a yearly basis. So send off anyway with a new photo, and you get a digi free, same as if you take a medical, phone DVLA for an update if need be. Basically, just put the digi in the slot, set the mode to drive, and off you go, taking it out at the end of your shift, unless over nighting, then you can leave it in.

No they are not, they cost £38 for the first one :unamused:
Actually, reading the rest of what you put, except the medical, is a load of ■■■■■■■■…

Your best bet is to make sure you do a good digital tacho course as part of your driver cpc training.

Make sure it’s one where they give you hands-on experience with an actual tacho or a good simulator.

You can then practice what you have learned on various on-line simulators to get familiar with the different makes and models.

Thanks for the input guys - much appreciated.

Submitted new medical and just waiting for DVLA to return license. Once that sorted I plan to do dcpc before Sept on week long course, probably in June now. Will also part with the £38 for the digicard.

Oh for the old days…

Just keep pressing “OK”. That usually works.
