When will Analogue Tacho's become obsolete?

As above, if they have had to be fitted since 2006… what is a realistic time frame for them to be in operation ?

I’d say they will be a rarity in 3 years time not that many motors over 10 years old now.
I’d imagine most big fleets are 100 digi now

There will still be those who will hang on, such as small opperators running old trucks. Its only when or IF these old trucks disapear will analogue be consigned to history.
Though in the last couple of years, I could probably count on 1 hand the number of times I used a paper chart. Its such a rare occasion that I have to pause and think how I should correctly fill it in

still got 2 on our fleet, one is now a spare truck after I got out of it at the weekend to take on my new one, the other will come off fleet at the end of this year then we will be all digi :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Sadly missed :frowning: Also very sadly missed now i drive a 12 plate are the old digi motors without a plastic cap on the sender unit  :smiling_imp:

Crowd i am with 80% of our fleet is analogue tacho
i often wonder why this is  specially when every year they buy about 10/20 second hand trucks but always analogue
where they find these trucks is beyond me

so do anybody knows what happens if the analogue tacho claps out …does it get replaced with a digi tach or a new/second-hand, analogue unit ?

currently, replaced with like for like

my 06 plate MAN analogue tacho failed its 6 yearly calibration on driver 2 settings, was replaced with another analogue tacho, this was about 5 months ago

Our “fleet” is 75% paper. Can’t wait to get rid of them.

They will soldier on in the bus industry for at least another ten years.I use my card once or twice a month and can hardly remember how to fit the damned thing.

Ta fer that…just got me thinking reading the thread

There will also be a lot of vans and lighter vehicles that were fitted with them for pulling a trailer, these may become a premium motor for some people, like builders, farmers, gardeners etc

Easier to fiddle?

Both my trucks are analogue, no need to replace them for a good few years.
I do have a digicard, never been used!
Cheers
Paul

I read it somewhere all tacho,s will have to be replaced by 2020…to digi,s that,s if we are still in the eu

Most of our fleet are anolouge as mainly run 53-55 plate make up most of the fleet

According Karen Crispe (TACHODISC MD present at talks at the e.u)
2020 The Analouge Tacho in all trucks will have to be replaced by digi i don’t think even if we escaped the eu it would stop the digi takeover !

We’ve only got a few left at our place, but they are for the chop soon.

What about operators replacing mk 1 digi’s with mk 2, I know off at least one owner driver doing this, he reckons it’ll give him 50 hours extra driving a year.

Digi card is easier for driver , I leave mine in all week , no fluffing about with writing , just end country and start country , job done .
What tickles me is the twerps who say that paper ones are easy to fiddle
My advice is change jobs to one that pays , although to be honest I think those quotes are coming mainly from the “look at me , look at me , aint I a bad boy on the forum twits” ! Bless em.

New Digital Tachos (2nd gen) now have software that use the 1 min rule which means that the biggest part of the minute used is what denotes what the minute is logged on your card and head, this can give the driver a lot of time back to use some have said
up to 45 mins a day i have to say i have not seen proof of this yet.

example
29 seconds driving + 31 seconds other work

minute will be recorded as other work
