What'sit really like?

Topic aimed at the people already living over the pond, we have all read your topics and seen the pictures of your units and the cities you deliver to etc, just wondered if anyone has got any pictures of what its really like where you lot live, your house (doesn’t have to be personal or anything just stuff like your gardens …) your neighbourhood, everyday vehicle (obviously apart from your truck) stuff like that so can get a better idea of what it would be like if you made the move over , don’t want to see your wifes knicker draw (although I wouldn’t complain  lol ) but you get the idea , if no1 wants to take part I understand but thought it would be good for people to get a better idea to what it would be like when not working , cheers

Nathan.

My car in front of my house.

I live in the 3rd largest city in Manitoba, there’s around 15,000 people here, but it’s well spread out and not busy at all, we’ve got the usual shops, four big supermarkets, the fast food joints, a few restuaraunts, no pubs and a lot of bloody snow

that’s a nice car nmm , is it 4wd? the house looks nice aswell, that’s where I was looking at going somewere around Winnipeg area, deffinatley Manitoba anyways.

Thanks, it’s RWD, the 4WD are only available with a 6 pot, mine has the 5.7l HEMI V8 and it’s a lot of fun :sunglasses:

I live in Steinbach, it’s about 45mins from Winnipeg

So it’s fun in the snow haha, do people tend to buy houses over there as I’ve read somewhere there is not slot for rent

Cant speak for Manitoba but in New Brunswick property is really quite cheap but most locals here earn the minimum wage and cant afford to save for a deposit or have poor credit so have to spend even more money and rent indefinitely. It’d be cheaper for them to buy a place but many cant get on the ladder. People who come from the UK don’t usually rent for long because its a rip off compared to buying and either bring a load of money with them from a house sale/savings from the UK or due to the job here being what it is, earn a lot compared to the local average and get a mortgage without too much hassle.

In provinces where property costs more then renting is much more economical than is the case in NB but renting anywhere is just putting money in to other peoples pockets but its a convenient way of living for a while here to see if you like things or not.

If you want to see what property is like and the prices, try having a look at realtor.ca. I find it a pretty good site to use. Then google earth the address and use ‘street view’ to have a look around the neighbourhood. It’s really interesting.

I will post some pics for you later, once I’ve figured out how too!

My car, Ford Expedition 4.6L V8, and my house.

Unlike the Canuks up there with nice new houses, I live in a mountain comunity in a house over 80 years old, it is beautifull here but life is a struggle for most working people in the area.

The lock is the entrance to the most southerly point of Lake Champlain and is half a mile from my house.

View of the Hudson river valley from Starks nob in Schulerville (a short drive south).

Route US 4 right outside our house.

A beauty spot about 4 miles from home.

If you look at a map of New York state and the eastern edge of the Adirondack national park we live right on the edge of it, the actual wilderness area starts 2 streets back from our house. We live a short drive from Lake George village wich is a great holiday resort spot, the area is riddled with British history, Fort William Henry is in Lake George and Fort Anne (our nearest village) has a small British fort. Last of the Mohecans was a true story based on this area, the caves under the waterfall in the movie are supposed to be Coopers cave in Glens Falls … so there you go, thats roughly where I live.

Some good pics ppl, looks like you could have some fun in that jeep pat. Wish I didn’t make the topic now makes me jealous haha , keep them coming! What is insurance like for cars big 4-5L V8s

they are all realy great photos some great places love all the boys toys … any mossies■■?..

Mossies haven’t been bad for the last few years but with the amount of snow melt that’ll be happening soon hence all the standing water for them to lay their eggs in this summer could be bad .
Car insurance in Saskatchewan is run by the Provincial government , so no competition , I pay $800 third party for my 4.6 V8 F150 , slightly more for my wifes 6.0 Jeep , and have a protected policy on top for $200 for the pair . We have no road tax or annual MOT  , oh and fuel is just over a buck a litre .
My nephew recently moved to Ontario from South Africa , and has been classed as a new driver , he’s paying $5000 to insure a Ford Focus :unamused: :unamused:

Ha ha ha … I hate that Jeep, it belongs to my wife, I got it for her on her birthday about 7 years ago and she will not trade it in for what she calls ‘sentimental reasons’, the damm thing breaks down almost every time she goes out in it now, so much so that I will not go with her because I tell her I have to sit at home and wait for the ‘I’ve broken down’ call  trouble is it is a 1985 model and nobody nowadays knows anything about any vehicle without injectors  I went to the shop half amile away one night and it just stopped, I unscrewed a bolt on the side of the carb and refitted it with a bit of wire wool to keep it tight and it ran ok, what the bolt did I have no idea because it wasn’t conected to anything, I used to strip Webber and SU carbs down regularly when I was young but this Jeep has me beaten, Mrs H sent it to a mechanic to be checked out after one such stoppage, they drove it back next day and it was running fine “What was wrong” asked the missus.
“I have no idea” said the mechanic, “Nobody on our firm knows how to work on a carb, but we started it and it ran, no charge anyway”
I want a Land Rover Deffender.

As for the insurance, we have got ours down to $500 a year for The Honda Pilot 3.8 and the Jeep 4.8 but we have never claimed anything. The trick here is to keep switching companies every year or so, they don’t like that and the prices go down.
More photo’s to make you jealous

As Robin has pointed out, different areas have a wide range of property prices, for instance … Our house if it was situated just 90 miles south would cost about $200,000, in NYC would cost around half a million … in our very poor comunity it cost us an unbelievable $64,000 (about 40,000 quid). It has 3 double bedroom, a lounge, dinning room, large kitchen, den, full size basement, a downstairs bathroom, upstairs bathroom with jaccuzi, swimming pool and a full width split level deck.
I work with guys who live in Yonkers area who rent a one bedroom flat for a staggering $1400 a month :open_mouth: Our mortgage is only $650 including all property and school taxes.

$5000 for a focus niceee lol, lmao pat just give it a good kick and it’ll be fine lol! Wish I was over there now tut. Keep the pics coming cheers ppl
