Whats with the M18/A1 junction crashes?

why does everybody seem to “crash” in the roadworks on this stretch  this road appears on radio 2 it seems everyday in every traffic report :exclamation: :open_mouth: the HA crews must be getting miffed :exclamation:

Its been a nightmare at our place today, apparently it’s a major no go area… luckily i’ve been up in the NE

The A1/M18 crash is a lorry crashed into the central reservation on the A1, the main crash was a multi-vehicle southbound 27 to 26. Looked like a real bad one, several cars and a lorry involved; hopefully no one was killed

unless im wrong radio 2 is just reporting the conjestion on that stretch caused by accident/accidents of a week or so ago, theyve got it down to 1 lane which is backing traffic up back to around about m18/a1 junction

oh i see   normally all i hear is m18/a1 reparing barrier after accident queues for 5 miles and i think another accident as happened :exclamation: , didnt realise it was from that one a couple of weeks back. did some odd why that people would keep crashing there :exclamation:

A couple of nights ago one of our Leigh drivers was killed in an RTA at this junction, think it happened around 7.30. :frowning:

I know a few drivers from Leigh, I’ll have to ask tonight to see who it was :open_mouth:

Gary someone■■? probably not a gary I can’t remember. He was 59 been with Norbert since Jan 2007

I’ve been wondering about this as it was closed this afternoon because of yet another accident. There has been four or five serious accidents on this stretch over the last couple of weeks with at least one driver killed. last week there was a fire when two cars and a lorry went up in smoke after shunt , everybody got out alright, then two waggons collided trying to avoid them.

At a guess I would say that most are a result of traffic joining at J36 and then about a mile after the junction for the M18 appears. A lot of people go as far as they can then cut in for the M18 not realising what they cause behind them.

The roundabout for the M18 south at the junction is ridiculous…so many enter the roundabout in the left hand lane and turn right :open_mouth: :open_mouth: to avoid the queues. I’ve have had many a near miss on it, fortunately I’m aware of it and up to now am accident free…I fear it will happen one day when I move over though  Not be intentional but if they are in the wrong lane and I can’t see them :unamused:

the one last week or the week before was a redhead freight from low moor, Bradford. he hit another lorry up the arse and the cab was sheared of the chassis, like the picture of that b&q one that’s knocking about.

i don’t know what it is with that stretch but its getting ridiculous. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I did a Sheffield that way last week, think most drivers are using M62, M18 i didn’t realize how bad the ques were just for the barrier repairs and it was a second run !!

The M25 is just as bad.

5am this morning there was an accident anticlockwise in the road works, which shut the motorway, then an hour later there was an accident in the same spot, but clockwise. Then this afternoon there was another accident anti clockwise where the first one was

It’s always between the A12 and M11, and the cause is probably people who cant read signs, sit in the middle/outside lane, then realise the M11 junction is coming up and cut across.

Ah . . . . . . make sure you’re reading the road markings/lane control properly though

The Norbert driver from the Leigh depot who died was Christopher Bingham

I haven’t seen any signs indicating you can use the left hand lane to turn right at that junction? Unlike the M1/M62 junction were i often get abuse for using the inside lane :unamused:

assuming we are all on about the same roundabout, when you come off the M18 s/b to the roundabout so you can north or south on the A1 the signs say right hand lane for s/b a1 and left for n/b

i travel A1(M) through there regularly…traffic is nightmare in peak periods especially as already mentioned with those cutting in at last moment to exit at certain junctions…+ probably not helped by roadworks now…
