I know at least one Scania fan that wouldn’t have a problem with that.

Scania S450 is it or a new last of the R450■■

FH500 will blow the arse clean off them both and is a cracking drivers motor!!!

No its a new next gen R450 with the bigger cab but i do like the volvo.

Next generation are S450
(hence “S” series)
the previous model were R450.

Ah right,
Haven’t noticed any new R series about only the S.

You’d need to ask somebody who has had experience of both Colin, to get a decent comparison.
Luke springs to mind.

The Scania, if it’s the new one of course. Id take a new shape Scania over a Volvo currently, not much in it but slightly better all round

Ive been offered a new scania with the high R cab on it or wait till march and get another volvo fh.The scania is a 450 but the volvo will be a 500 and both would be fitted with the fridge and microwave option.Ive drove the new scania it is good truck to drive but i do like the volvo so thought i would ask to see what peoples opinion was on them and what they would pick.

Get the new Scania. Volvo trucks are very overrated and feel cheaper inside than the Scania, plus as others have said, the dreadful handbrake. Unless you’re going to be fully laden a lot of the time and going up a lot of hills, a 450hp will be fine (I was hauling full loads of metal this week along the A35 in Dorset and the M25 in Surrey - not the biggest hills but they will slow you down - in a 450hp Scania and it did fine.

I’ve not driven…

Either of these but, the Skoda has it’s work cut to keep up with Volvo’s gearbox which I’ve always found faultless.

Looking at Lukes opinions of both trucks on Ytube, the Skoda does appear to be the better motor though.

Someone please explain what the problem is with (as Juddian put it) ‘the toytown handbrake’

Exactly,
I found the Volvo “electric” park brake a great job using the hill-start button sure don’t even need to touch the park-brake.

Just pull on when stopped and green light etc press go-pedal SLOWLY and away you go,
couldn’t have it any handier!!![emoji41]

I haven’t been inside the new Scania range but IMHO the FH4 has the old R series beat hands down.
The R series engine brake/gearbox pure DUNG and can’t believe I’m hearing that stupid pull out bunk has been carried over into the new Scania range!!![emoji52]

couldn’t care less,if it does the job and I get home at a reasonable time everyday then what does it matter what you drive,i myself drive a DAF 106 XF,not my choice but it is nice, looking after it is another thing though.

Just a small update.I went with the volvo was told its march will be here but ill wait and see when it comes.I saw the scania lying there next to the volvo i have now and that made my mind up.So my next new truck will be a 18 plate volvo fh 500.

I would choose a pay increase and the truck wouldn’t matter. Nice trucks are great but if it meant driving a wreck higher pay than driving a brand new Scania for lower pay, I will take the wreck first.

The oldest truck on the road is a 55 plate and it only stays local or shunting i get paid above average for the area so cant complain got a good life and standard of living.

I drive the FH 500 Globetrotter on 17 plates, they’re amazing mate, you won’t be disappointed, I run at 44 ton all the time the power is nice.

I’m not so sure, decent equipment is the correct tool for the job, I wouldn’t fancy driving an old uncomfortable motor everyday!

That’s not the choice in hand though is it. I’ve never encountered a company where pay depends on the age of Truck you drive…
