Isnt a bus, its a pile of ZB
i think in your case though the saying a bad workman always blames his tools would be much closer to the mark
TAXI
DAF95XF:
Its got a bog on it and weighs 2 ton more than a coach…
Good job you didnt use a wide angle lense or we’d see your personal wrecker reversing towards the bus with lights flashing

No seriously in this case its the bus!!!
I drove one of those 58 reg ones when it was a few weeks old and there was something rolling around in the roof…
As for the build quality of them…
Saying that it is made by Dennis so goes some way to the crappines of them…!!!
The only plus poin is the low down dash on which you can stick your left foot on…

Is that cos it isnt at your depot?
A bus driver is a glorified taxi driver in a posh uniform
A coach driver is a ambassador in a very very posh uniform
yes i know Taxi please
sorry no 6 bus
Most bus drivers are teflon drivers. None stick licence. We always said one difference is a bus driver cant reverse. They last time they did was on their test. They just go forwards even in the garage they just drive in and get out someone else parks it up.Coach drivers have to reverse into some tight spaces at hotels and stuff.
in australia you automatically get your bus licence when you pass your rigid licence, handy!
I think a Coach is a coach and not a bus as it has a separate locker for luggage underneath and/or at the rear of the vehicle. Also coaches are designed to not to have any standing passengers.
Other characteristics that coaches might have are : Better ride on improved suspension, individual ventilation and night reading lights for all seats. Abilty to cruise at 62 mph at medium revs all day.
Can a coach use a bus lane?
Yes a coach can use a bus lane unless marked local or service buses only. When I did my test I did not use the bus lane as 1 I was in a coach and 2 the crappy instructor said nothing about them and 3 I reckoned that I was not doing the work of a bus so should stay out of the lane. The examiner Mr. McCfail. said not using the bus lane caused an obstruction to other vehicles. So if in a coach use the bus lane.

Bus drivers cant reverse eh
Last time I reversed a bus was today, at least 2 dozen times out of the bays at the bus station, and we have 2 routes where we have to perfom a 3 point turn - the 200 from Basingstoke to Hook Holt Estate and the 201 from Alton to Hook, a couple of which goes via Long Sutton and once again has to do a 3 point turn…
A coach driver sees a slight bend on the road and breaks out a sweat…
A location where a coach driver might break out swea turning -
Zoom Earth | Live Weather Map & Hurricane Tracker - turn right off of Crown Street and follow The Street and onto Pyotts Hill
It doesnt matter what the difference is between a coach and bus driver, its the same sodding licence
Coach drivers might think their up there in the big shiny coaches on their £7.50ph (a lot of them dont wave at us “mere” bus drivers ), Im perfectly happy driving my bus for £9.45ph thank you…

Lets see you jump in the seat of my 15m tri axle rear steer coach and squeaze it round the roads I take it in edinburgh and glasgow. Oooooooooo you reverse out of stances at bus stations, very clever. I don’t break out a sweat at slight bends, mate. Remember up untill recently I was blind siding 44tonners on distance work
Okay guys I didn’t mean for this topic to get into a match between bus and coach drivers. Their work is just different. What i will say however is that bus drivers who operate wholly within large cities such as London bus drivers do not appreciate what rural bus drivers have to do in terms of negotiating narrow and sometimes unlit roads at night and reversing. They are different types of work.
One thing that I have noticed however is that bus do tend to operate on fixed timetabled routes which are learnt in advance by route learning with an experienced driver. Most of these would tend to be quite short ie under 50 km or 31 miles or they would fall under EU rather than domestic rules.
A step up would be longer distance work, still on the fixed routes and with route learning in advance but obviating the need to use tachographs. Vehicles for this work would usually be heavier, and more powerful. Megabus and National Express would fall into this category also certain really long bus routes like the X5 (Oxford to Cambridge) for example.
In the types of work above the cleaning and fuelling of the vehicles usually done by cleaners and shunters at the depot.
The final step i believe is work not on fixed routes where the driver has to determine how to get to the location, where to park, how long he/she can stay there to stay within the legal hours, where to take rest breaks both for legal reasons and for the comfort of passengers. In the case of longer stays away the driver will also have to liase with the hotel notifying time or arrival and of any special requirements for any special passengers not to mention unloading of the luggage. Then he/she will of course have to clean the vehicle which includes dumping the toilet somewhere. And the itinarary may include tours to various places which will need to be researched well before hand and don’t forget to keep an eye on the fuel!
The latter drivers are usually paid the least on an hourly basis. Is it worth it?
Same licence, same whinging passengers… been there, read the book, got the t-shirt etc etc
Tiger.
A few hundred quid a month? More if you take old dears on long trips?
Most coach companies like their drivers to have a manual D ticket, most bus companies only want an auto D ticket (partly because all their busses are autos, but mostly to stop the better paying coach companies poaching all their drivers). 90% or more bus companies that will teach you driving will only get you the auto ticket.
You don’t keep hearing “ding-ding” on a coach!

I learnt on a double decker with a crash box (before I got a proper licence, HGV1 ), surely you would be a bit limited job wise with an ‘automatic only’ licence? but I suppose thats the whole point?
