What is a 'DSO' .....yes ............'o' expolit?

I saw this on an earlier thread… and I don’t want to hunt on the net to find out. Can anyone give me a clue please?

Thank you from a thick puter user

I think you may mean DSO Exploit as this is in relation to computers.

This exploit is a bug in Internet Explorer that under certain circumstances would allow untrusted software to run on the computer and could give hackers access to your system. If you are running the latest version of Internet Explorer and have all your Windows Updates installed, the bug has been patched and is not a threat to your computer.

E and O are very close on my key board

Thank you for replying… Can you tell me what DSO stands for too please?

DSO= Denial of Service Order

OK… ty for that… but what untrusted software does it prevent from exploiting my puter? Is it just in windows or is it other software? and if it is in other software, what software is it??

What is a DSO Exploit

If you are wondering why spybot is reporting a DSO Exploit. First, there is a bug in spybot at the moment that means it will always report this error. The bug will be fixed in a newer version of spybot.

What is a DSO Exploit.

DSO stands for Data Source Object. So a Data Source Exploit can be very severe when you consider your hard drive is a data source or pretty much anything else for that matter and can be accessed using a method called data binding. A DSO Exploit is where someone maliciously uses data binding techniques to gain access to material they are not meant to access. This was a bug in some versions of Internet Explorer, Outlook Express etc. the new versions no longer have this problem and I suggest you upgrade to these to avoid the bug.

This does not mean you have to go and buy the latest microsoft software. Microsoft release service packs that come with the necessary patches required to fix this problem so get the latest service pack for your system and install it and you will be safe from this particular bug, or at least until some ■■■■■■■ finds another way to crack it

If you have a patched system, it’s very unlikely that your PC has DSO Exploit. However, there is a bug in SpyBot, which means it can find this exploit repeatedly and apparently fail to fix it.

No one else answers my ‘thick’ questions… I answer them myself!

lol DSO EXPLOIT is spyware / viruis … :imp: :imp:

I think that a DSO exploit is about vulnerabilities in the windows software (bugs) and is not about virus’ or trojans (coffee already stated this, but it took me ages to read and understand that post) If you use a windows patform (ms) there are people out there who try to exploit anything within windows, and allow hackers to get in to you system (in the worst case scenario, ‘exploit’ your puter) The exploit can work in many ways, and can even mess up your hard drive, rendering your puter useless. I struggle with keeping up with the net and the possible problems associated with it, but common sense tells me the following:

(1) Update from Microsoft, and get fixes to any bugs.
(2) Have a GOOD virus scanner and firewall! There are lots of freebies to be had online, but I personally would not use a supposedly ‘free’ anything without reccommendation. Would you allow someone to ‘service’ your vehicle because it was free? …? I wouldn’t.
(3) Do not open mail unless you expect it! etc etc etc
