Ideally have a night out,if this is not possible and you have to be recovered , you must leave your card in the vechicle until the other driver arrives, your working day continues until you arrive back at your depot , or your home if you go direct from your vechicle to your home address,in either instance ,the time should be used to calculate your daily rest and your start time the next day , you may incur infringements , you must make manual entries to cover this time at the earliest opportunity .
It’s not very clear what there saying , run out of driving time / work time , but I was under the impression you couldn’t be recovered if you’d run out of work time , could if you’d run out of driving time and had enough work time to be recovered in .
If it’s work time and you’ve used your daily allowance I.e 15 hrs, what are you going to put in mode wise for traveling back to depot when you put your manual entry in as required .

Sweet F A .
If no sleeper cab then there is likely to be a B&B/motel etc somewhere near so no excuse not to have a night out
You can also go onto rest where you ran out of time. get transported home then restart the next shift at the point where you went onto rest
You could also do this -
Company sends out another driver in a vehicle under 3500 GVW
That driver takes lorry back to base
(A) you go to B&B etc to have rest period
(B) you drive back to base/home after rest period manually recording other work for that journey
I wonder who would do A & B the other way around … illegal but who is likely to know …
