What have people's experiences of carphone warehouse been?

Just trying to get a general feel for these, had an upgrade due on my phone so went to them as got previous phone from them. Had looked on the web before I went to the shop to compare phones, and decided I wanted the nokia N900 so went to the shop to see it in the flesh so to speak.

Decided to go for it, they went to process the order wouldn’t go through, money outstanding on Orange contract, which there shouldn’t have been as I’d paid it off the day before [Monday this week] They said well it can take up to 24hours to clear. No worries I said I’d go in the following day [Weds] so went in after work, no still won’t go through money outstanding on account, I rang 150 the payment and queries line, no outstanding money on your account, just as I thought. Told them to ring Orange and speak directly to them, so they did, outcome, no outstanding money on account but it is in line to be given the all clear that there is no money outstanding on the account…WTF how does this work out? I pay on time each month, every month, there is never a delay in payment why has it taken 3 days and still hasn’t cleared the account, even though my bank have told me the money is long gone from my bank account.

The upshot is they still can’t process my order, fine I’ll come back in on Friday says I, it’ll be cleared by then…it wasn’t. I’ll be in tomorrow then [Sat] to get my phone, ‘‘you will give me my new phone it’s been almost a week since they money left my account to pay the bill I want either my new phone or your blood’’ I was feeling quite peeved by now…

Went in yesterday guess what can’t upgrade it, still not been cleared on system, told them to find a way around it, which was by taking out a new contract[which I would have had to have done anyway as I was swapping to vodafone from orange…] rather than upgrading, not sure what the difference is, or why they couldn’t have done this in the first place… Get home open it all up, accessories missing, on the web it says under features - in the box:
carphonewarehouse.com/mobile … ost=&gift=

I didn’t have the bluetooth headset, sd card or speakers in the box…I left it as, I was really wound up by it all.

Went in today to get it sorted, they were adamant that it shouldn’t come with these things, when questioned why do you advertise it then as coming with them they had no come back, when asked why wasn’t the box sealed like every other phone I’ve bought, they had no answer. They finally came round to my trail of thought when I dropped in trading standards and 7day cooling off periods etc, not that I really have a full grasp of what they entail and said ok but we’ll have to order them in, will take 2-3 days. When asked again why weren’t they supplied in the box originally like their ■■■■■■■ website said surprise surprise the fella had no reply.

Have I just been unlucky with my dealings with them or are they a grade A set of [zb] across the board?

Also I only swore at them once through the whole week which I was very proud of :grimacing: The email I send off to the complaints team will be censored aswell

Sorry for the long windedness of this post just had to post the full thing so people get the jist of what occured

Yes I know the fault may lie with Orange in the clearing of funds on phone account, but it took CW a week to work a way around it why didn’t they do that to start with, plus they weren’t helpful through the whole thing and with missing accessories well it all adds up against them

while i have no direct dealings with car phone warehouse,im afraid, that this is the current standard of retailing that we as members of the public, and ultimatley, customers recieve on a daily basis.that standard can best be described as shocking, and most “punters” are prepared to overlook or put up with such poor service.
good on you for not,and please always pursue vigourously all compliants to higher than shop floor level to their bitter end.i had a similiar experience with “3” and needless to say, will not renew with them this year when my contract is up for renewal(or ever for that matter).

When I moved back to UK from Germany I went to them. Short version of events - I couldn’t get a phone from them as I’d moved house within the last month. I signed up to the credit check agency (Experian) and my score was all green bar the fact that I wasn’t on the Electoral Role (seeing as I just moved house!). I got a PAYG and then went back to Carphone Warehouse a month later, by which time I was on the Electoral Role. They processed the order and just as they were about to complete it, I pointed out that they’d spelt my name wrong (thickies!!) so they cancelled the transaction and re-did it. NOT APPROVED - WTF!! Eventually it turns out that some one with the same account details but different name had just tried to get a phone from them a few mins before! :open_mouth:

I’m trying to be gracious by thinking that their credit check computer/agency is a bit too ‘sharp’ but either way it was a right PITA. I went home and ordered the same phone, same network direct over the internet - arrived a couple of days later, no problem.

In summary, my experience of Carphone warehouse = not good. :unamused: :unamused:

A friend of mine was actually asked to leave a carphone warehouse shop because of what he was wearing.

He is a Kleeneze agent like we are and has had a polo shirt made up with “earn an extra income” printed on the back with a contact number.
Anyway he had a bit of spare time and decided to pop in for a browse because his contract was up soon.

He was asked to leave because “They do not like secondary advertising” :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :unamused:

Got a phone there once. NEVER again.

I got a phone (LG GW300, [zb] phone, dont get one) from o2 and was after a case. O2 didnt have one. So, a ride to Carephone warehouse. Looked in Blackberry section for the cases. Saw a few which might fit. Went to ask the person of his thoughts, or any other suggestions. Their answer was a smaller case which it had no chance of fitting in. They cant open up any of the cases either :unamused:
I asked which phone case they think it would fit in to be greated by, i dunno, try the other Carephone Warehouse in town, they will have more stuff :unamused: No, they have the same stuff.
So i left, with no case and after they had passed my phone from person to person asking each of the idiots behind the till what they thought.
Took my bike in with me. When i left i clipped my foot in in the shop. With it being fixed i spun the back wheel up so i could clip in. Left a nice rubbed mark on the floor.;
Went to the other one, guy said he didnt have one, but gave me a few other places to try.
Ended up getting rid of that phone and getting a different one a completly different shape.
Went to the more helpful one, who cracked open a few cases for me to try, and ended up just getting that.
Not keen ont he places. O2 can be just as bad though. The first phone i had had a software problem, i was told to do a full reset. To which i replied, oh, does that update the software for me then? :unamused:
But, i swapped phones.
Recently i had a problem with the charger and it not charging the phone up. I went in, expecting to have to pay for a new charger, and they just gave me a new one.

Thats also a reason to never buy an LG phone.

44 Tonne Ton:
Got a phone there once. NEVER again.

That would be the polite way of saying it and my feelings too.

They are pathetic!! I ordered an iPhone from their website and requested the collect at store option as my local store would have no stock for a while. I spent near £30 on call charges and 2 weeks trying to sort out were my phone was as it had gone missing from their store, but DHL had a signature for it. And as I ordered it from their website the store “couldn’t help me” WTF!!!

So I went to cancel it and they said I couldn’t cancel it until I physically got the phone!! And when it was finally canceled they still continued to bill me for 2 months later!!! It’s laughable really.

I should have learnt my lesson as that’s the second run in I’ve had with them. Never again!!!

I went to an local independant phone store instead and got it over the counter there and then, with a few accessories thrown in for free, oh and a smile, a “thanks” and a follow up call later that week to see how I was getting on with the phone.

The missing bits which were supposed to be in by yesterday, well I gave them another day just incase, I went in today asked for them, they said they didn’t have them, they sent an email to whoever on Sunday and have had no reply. I told them I’d be getting them by 4.30pm tomorrow or I’d be taking the matter further. They still claim it’s a misprint. Also the complaint email I sent to them, it took them three days to answer to it, their reply was

Even though at no point did I ask to make any changes to my account I was merely telling them I was ■■■■■■ off with their lack of service/help, and to top it off they ask you for your ■■■■■■■ address when you submit the complaint form :unamused: :unamused:
