I used to bump into one of the brothers regularly ( Mark?, I think), around Wellingborough driving a 7.5t Ford Cargo before he had his HGV licence.

Hello,I came across this looking for stuff for the scrapbook thread.
Cheers Bubbs,
Great pic, don’t think I’ve ever seen a DJP MAN. Were those grille extensions painted on or fabricated?
Thanks Big Rich

Some cracking photos there. Mike your trucks are a credit to you and your drivers, there is nothing better than a properly turned out truck.

Hi Mike.
Defo mid '80’s. I was working for a company called Carryfast at that time (7.5t Leyland Roadrunner, white with a green arrow on the sides), doing simular work around the Wellingborough ,Rushden & Northhampton area.

THE FIRST TRANSCON TO ENTER THE DJP FLEET
TRACTION FOR B&I LINE,0
Hello Mike,Thought that i better put my ten pennoth into the discussion, better late than never. It certainly brings back memories seeing KOV622P in the attached photo.Did quite a few miles in that in the early 80
s for B and I Line, and a couple of more Transcons, before moving up to the first of the Scanias.
It came as another surprise to see the photo of the stablemate of my MAN( mine being E332). That was luxury compared to the Transcons. Moving from that to an FL10(wendyhouse) was another eye-opener, then up again to the FH12 and finally the bigger Scanias. God, i wished i had taken photos of the vehicles driven in the past- there would be enough to fill an album!
It`s amazing just how much had happened over the 21 years that i was there.
It would be nice to see or hear from some of the old drivers, the likes of whom will never be around again. They were from day 1 some of the best, genuine, and hardest working “mates” i have ever had the pleasure of working with. They were all legends in one way or another!!! I would like to be able to list all of them, but that again would fill a book. The likes of Micky Bailey,Peter Kirby(the Pope),Kevin Shakespeare,Fred Robinson et al come to mind.
Another thread that i could possibly add a little more to is the one regarding the Scania 92 rigid .It was bought exclusively for the VAX distribution contract that Ponsonbys had at that time. It was driven solely by Kieth Jewkes(Slaphead) from new.
I could go on and on with all the various tales over the years, if only i could remember them all !!
Perhaps it would be an idea to see if Mick has any old photos of any of the Ponsonby wagons

Regarding Martin Wilton’s Ponsonby drivers reunion, this was to be held at Wembley Stadium but unfortuanately this only has capacity to hold 80 thousand, so hence we are awaiting the Olympic Stadium to be be completed…details to follow.
