What are the chances of getting a K200 into the UK?

Let’s say I’ve got loads of money, millions (i don’t, I’ve prob got about 40quid if that)

Would it be even feesable to import such a beast, which could have a euro6 Volvo engine (750 ofcourse) so it could meet EU or UK regulations… I’d probably have to get some of bits added for regulations and tests

I’m not sure how they’d ship it… in bits? As one?

Why dont DAF do this! Instead we’re stuck with a poxy XF :unamused:

I mean come on, look at her!! :sunglasses:

Don’t tell me you wouldnt want a go ■■

I’d love a go in it, too right.
I’ve always liked US motors, and always wanted a go in one of their old style KW or Peterbilt conventionals with a proper 18 speed Fuller box in (at least I think I could remember how to handle one after all that time) it was ‘Convoy’ that made me want to be a trucker ffs
But !..if I was worth millions as you say, I wouldn’t even look at another ■■■■ truck, let alone buy a one.

In a related matter, last week I saw an old conventional bonneted unit overnighting in a layby (possibly on A12 around Colchester) pulling a tanker. The unit was white coloured. I’m almost certain it was a working motor, and not a show piece. It really stood out and got me wondering how reliable and economically viable it is to run such a unit in the UK. It’s always a real pleasure to see American stuff on UK roads. Which makes me wonder why so many recovery firms use them.

It’s because the bloody things rattle the drivers to death but just keep going with a new bloke behind the wheel.

Those are French Kenworths with the tankers, They deliver to a place out Stowmarket, Suffolk way, they are a regular sight on the A12.

Thanks for the info mate. I rarely use the A12, so have never seen them. I did a huge double take when I saw it.

You could import it, but there would more than likely be be tax to pay on it, we are talking about the treasury after all! Once in the UK it would have to be submitted for an Individual Vehicle Appraisal to assess whether it meets UK Construction and Use Regulations; which it won’t without modification to its lighting, mirrors and probably its Parking and trailer brake operation at least.

I shipped my motorbike from Miami to Erith , when it arrived it was smashed up and I got ripped off by the freight agent as the wooden crate I paid for was the size of a van , so I paid for someone else 's cargo .
The manifest weight was way over for a motorbike , for your shipment expect damage when they load / unload it , salt damage on the voyage , and possibly the ships crew interfering with it , if they have the keys .
I’m guessing open top container , similar to a flat bed , to bring it over , my bike was held at Customs for about 6 weeks .
Another issue is some low life putting drugs in it .

there a few ro ro vehicle boats servicing austrailia to uk so no need for container, strip down, prob be more expensive way but be least damage way. have a nosey at these guys

It would be a lot easier to import this one bud

Looking for used?
There is a dealer at Issoire airport in France. Getting something already French (and EU) reg is surely easier than going for type approval yourself? As already said there are a few US trucks working in France pulling tanks and containers. The problem with big cabs and double drives is probably overall length. Not so bad with tanks and skellies.

Plenty of the junk over here, never understood the obsession with road ranger,… oh that’s right it’s a “man’s” truck

No, I think you will find it just happened to be a terrific gearbox to work with.

With my Volvo in the workshop this week , I was given a Kenworth , albeit a T680 . They’re hateful things , shakes and rattles , no storage ,coupled to an Eaton Ultra 13sp the ■■■■ thing couldn’t pull a greasy stick out of a dogs arse , just a hideous driving experience .

^^^ this ,you can’t get c&u on anything like that now ,the only way to use one properly in the U.K. is to buy an older one that was registered here in I thought the 80s but I can’t remember the exact yr .
My relative went to the U.S to a truck show to buy a new freight shaker but the c&u couldn’t be got .

Have you ever driven one??

Apart from the large “sleeper-pod” they’re a heap of scrap and TOTALLY unsuited to UK roads!!! :frowning:

Yep, as I said, shake the crap out of the poor sod behind the wheel.

■■■■■■ Kenworths , what is it with them that every time you pull away from lights/junctions etc , the fan cuts in not only making a sinful racket but also killing the power just when you want it ?
