I often use the jobcentre website : jobcentreplus.gov.uk. Companies and agencies list vacancies here although you will find that some agencies will list non-existent jobs only to get you registered for future work. Good luck in the search.

I notice you are another Oxfordshire dweller, you have much luck with the job centre website for stuff round here? seems to be fairly slim pickings, occasional decent one pops up, but its gone before you can dial the number…
I’m sure their are better websites, but im blown if I can find one, there is too much junk out there being clogged up with nonsense agency jobs.

I’m in East Oxford. Jobcentre doesn’t quite work for HGV recruitment in Oxford. I think there is not many HGV permanent jobs to go around in Oxford. Done lots of class 2 work for the agencies.
Most agencies will say temp to perm only for you to find out that you’re covering someone on a sickie or doing the run that no permanent staff will touch. I would like to hear your what your experience has been for Class 1 work. I understand that there is loads ofwork from Tesco and Asda in Didcot.

So goes the rumour. I never really looked into it decently, although 15 minutes from where I live would be convenient. But something just doesn’t appeal about those supermarket driving jobs, endless wasted hours in RDC’s, stupid gatehouse/goods in procedures, stuck up goods in staff, and tedious runs back and forwards down the major trunk roads doesn’t appeal.
I passed my Class 1, then got itchy feet with my current 7.5t job and went looking. Most of the calls from the job centre website led to nothing, or were fake, made up by agencies. If it read… too good to be true, it pretty much was. Settled for a local haulage firm between Reading and Maidenhead, that I found in the local paper. Advertising general haulage and low loader plant work, ended up to be CHEP pallet deliveries for all the mugs, and only the low loader and general haulage jobs for a trio of the boss’ brown nosers. I spent a lot of hours in ASDA and TESCO didcot RDC’s which is probably what put me off.
Crossing the Thames at the Reading//Henley choke points to get home put the final nail in the coffin, and I chucked it after a month, and went back to the 7.5t.
Got an eye on the job centre websites most weeks, and the local papers, but doesn’t seem a great selection to be quite honest.
A company called two cousins 2cousinsaccess.co.uk/ were advertising for class 1 plant delivery work on job centre a few weeks ago, decent money, they are based in Cowley. I meant to ring them, but never got round to it.
I am in too much of a comfort zone with the 7.5t work, and after the disaster of last HGV job, I am reluctant to uproot again. But always keep my eyes open.
Oh, and Jewsons the builders merchants always seem to be recruiting, but I have stayed away from that one based on the frequency of the ads… wondering why they can get no one to stick it for long.
If you got a local paper try their website aswell also find where companies are in your area in the phone book and give them a ring or go knock on doors
