What 7.5 tonne day cab is most comfortable for a tall driver

I last drove a 7.5t truck about 15 years ago. Iveco, I think. It was hired so probably a year or two older than 2010. It was a day cab and the run from Inverness to Scunthorpe and back was torture because of the cramped driving position. I’m 6’4" and c.17 stones.

I’m considering buying a used (up to 10 year old) truck and would be interested to hear from taller drivers which day cab gives the most comfortable seating position.

I know that a sleeper cab would give more scope for moving the seat back and reclining it, but sleepers are rare at 7.5t, especially on a short wheelbase, which is what I want.

These gave the best headroom:

I don’t tend to see so many of these nowadays.

And plenty of scope to move the seat back.

Carryfast will be along soon to prove everyone is wrong and he is right.

Only in his own delusional mind.

None unless it has a bunk be hind the seat
I’m only 5 10 and found LF’s and euro cargos cramped
My XG has loads of room

What about the MAN day cab? Some google results suggest they are a bit bigger.

When I started driving in cargos, I ensured there was enough room for me in the cab by loading all the freight in the back…
Seriously though, are 7.5 tonners that much smaller nowadays?

Haven’t driven them for years

I’m no fan of 7.5 tonners but I do remember the Volvo FL4 was roomy and comfortable to drive.

The MAN’s are more roomy, and you can slide the seat back further. DAF is cramped.

I do wonder how you got from Inverness to Scunthorpe and back with a day cab, where did you sleep?

I will go and have a look at a MAN next week. Failing that it’ll have to be a sleeper.

Hotel on the Humber shore.
