Has anyone on here been on the wetherby test route?, I believe this would be the route I will be taking, might have a drive through in the car and see what hazards it presents.
each test centre has various routes and you will never know which route you will be taken on it is decided at random on the day of the test. my training provider took me around all of the test routes at gillingham and told me where the free driving parts would be.
Hi Rich as you know I use this test centre all the time. Routes can be Local around Wetherby or out to the outskirts of Leeds or out towards Harrogate. I know all the routes. I wouldn’t bother riding round in your car. Who ever you choose as your training provider either me or Tockwith you will be training on the routes.
Good luck with the theory test.

All the test routes are quite rural, so there isn’t anything particularly challenging, the only area worth getting to know is the centre of wetherby including Sandbeck Industrial Estate. The most beneficial road you should drive in your car is from the centre of wetherby through spofforth and on to Harrogate, the road is called the A661, this road has a 7.5ton weight limit but the examiners have a permit to use this road, however we can’t take you on this road on training but the examiner can and they often do use it. Apart from a couple of pinch points in Spofforth it’s quite an easy route, drive it both directions.

If it’s a 7.5t weight limit wouldn’t you be failing the test for driving on it? As the vehicle would be over the 7.5t limit? Is that somewhere where the examiner tries to catch the person taking the test out?

The examiner will let you know it’s a 7.5ton limit and say to you that you can proceed ahead through it as they have a permit for training vehicles. They have one at Steeton test centre.
I did mine at Walton and as mentioned was told to drive through the weight restriction as examiner said they have permit. Personally I found it a very easy test run. Hardest part was through wetherby itself as narrow a bit and pedestrians galore, came out with neck ache after window/mirror checking on overtime!
Some junctions are tight and you have to check ahead as you have no choice to go and use all road so check it’s clear.
Only other advice is some of the roundabout seem to tighten up so keep your line round so don’t mount kerb.
The examiner will clearly explain that he/she wishes you to proceed through the weight limit because they have a permit. The permit is issued to enable them to operate a sufficient number of routes within the local area. The permit should either be on display within the test centre waiting room or shown to you before you drive onto the road, however the DVSA don’t follow their own rules and you just have obey the examiner! I do love working with the government!
