Anyone working for this lot? Their website looks interesting.
I worked for a guy that had two trucks on Westerman about twelve years ago and know they had loads of work across Europe with relatively very few miles running empty.
I had a look at them 10 years ago, a guy was selling his MAN with the contract. It was 3 months away and your profit depended on the exchange date as payment was in euro/DM. I think they have lost a lot of work on the can job to stobart, you dont see too many around now, especially UK registered ones.
Thanks for the reply Mr Cold.
Much of the can work out of the UK was Stobbies when I worked for them years ago, Carlisle and Leicester mostly, although there were several other tin can manufacturers in the UK we loaded out of.
The job basically went t!ts up when Eastern European companies joined the EU and undercut much of Westerman’s work right across Western Europe.
The UK office at Basildon that controlled the 500 or so UK reg trucks closed and many of those working out of that office went on to other things.
The reason I opened this thread was in the hope things have changed somewhat in the intervening years, rates going up, work increased etc, as I would dearly love to get back on that job.
So far, I’ve only seen one UK reg truck in the UK with the Wheels Logistics logo. Some guy from the Gloucester, Worcester area I believe but as he’s always moving and has no phone number on the truck, I’ve no way of getting in touch.
I’ve mentioned Wheels to the guy I’m working for at the moment but he’s a bit slow on comeback, so I’ve no idea whether he’s interested or not.
I remember their wagon and drags, one uk driver who died,he was very over weight,i think he was called Mat,spent a few hours with him at the TIR park at Behobia,he had an operation, and did not come round from it,pleasant bloke.
The owner of the cafe saw him sat on one chair, and kindly brought out another chair for him to sit on.
