I don’t think that dead body and the blood that needs washing off the road is one of their targets, on the day I passed my class one my instructor told me, that the day I think I know it all is the day I should hang my keys up on the hook for good, because on that day I become a danger,. so yes no matter how many years you have behind the wheel, a little reminder of what could happen isn’t a bad thing, and the more confident, then cocky you are the more relevant it becomes.

Putting a corpse and the blood from said corpse on a video for training or safety purposes is simple voyeurism. This is the remains of a human being and it is being used for (ultimately) financial savings. We all know how much a fatal accident costs. This kind of stunt has become increasingly socially acceptable during the rise of the internet (you would hardly remember the outrage that so-called “snuff movies” caused). I find it difficult to reconcile the fact that you feel a swear-word filter is necessary, yet dead human bodies and blood are freely accessible to view by people of all ages.
You may feel you’re nearing all there is to know, I certainly don’t. I learn every day. I learn by experience not by voyeurism.
I dread to think how much more socially acceptable rubbernecking will become as a result of this video.
**Please note: I have changed “prurience” to “voyeurism”. In modern usage the word prurience has acquired a ■■■■■■ overtone, I used it in it’s purest sense but I accept that the majority of people would see it differently.
Hasn’t this dreadful accident featured on one of the BBC Motorway/Traffic cop programmes ?

The debate is good.
I’ll never make light of things like this, but after fifty years on the road and for a while working at the sharp end (The London Fire Brigade) I’ll like to come at the Drink Driving campaign from a different angle, they say that 33% of deaths on the road are caused by drunk driver, very frightening indeed but what I find even more frightening is the other 67% of deaths caused by drivers who are perfectly sober, now I find that very very frightening and I don’t know the answer.
Let’s just keep death of our work place the roads!.. Take care out there.

Death by sober tail-gating must be a big factor on motorways.
It would help if Drivers being overtaken would yield by minus 2mph.
Amen.

What has this video got to do with lorry drivers?
Exactly, although going by a lot of the replies most haven’t realised its about drink driving

The flippant comments aside in this thread, the blood you see in that video is real, not staged for the cameras , that body under the sheet is not an actor, that’s a person who has lost their life.
Now I dont know about you lot, but I find nothing flippant or funny in that.Every single one of you driving a truck can take a life tomorrow , so easily, just a moments inattention, a lack of a few hours shut eye, , or that one last pint.
I find that video sobering and also shocking, if you value what you do and the responsibilty that comes with that I hope you do to , if not your in the wrong job
I was responsible and sober long before I was patronised. I don’t need to be shocked into driving in the correct manner, if I did I would indeed be in the wrong job.
I am fully aware of my responsibilities and I value what I do dearly. It’s a shame that an awful lot of other road users seem to value their lives and mine even less than they value my contribution to society, the importance of road transport and the consequences of their actions.
I suggest that West Yorkshire Police stop chasing targets and headlines whilst wasting taxpayers’ money on movies and go and police the roads instead. That, after all is what they are paid to do.
If i wanted to be patronised about road safety I would visit the RoSPA or IAM website.
Good post and those same thoughts prompted my earlier post in this thread. If people are going to drink, they’re going to drink and no amount of gorey police videos will change that.

It’s just a start…
West Yorkshire Police do want to supply Trucknet members with more
appropriate collision information involving HGV’s, in the hope that bad
incidents can be avoided or reduced.
But there is a problem in supplying current information when a
case for Court or a Coroners Office is invoved.

Huh… We know cars shouldn’t do 50-60 on a dual carriageway, but they do and no number of graphic videos will get the MLOC to speed up.
Sorry if my comments looked nasty, didnt realise it was about drinking, saw it as far as “She was doing 50-60mph on a DC” and clicked the X
Thought it was a video about crawlers vs speeders
I would never drink and drive (Apart from a shandy or two in the sunshine )
greggy:
Not graphic enough in my eyes.
That sort of thing happens too often. Too many innocent people get their life cut short because of ■■■■ heads.
+1
If you ask me there should be a zero tollerance to drink driving
want to drink shouldnt be allowed to drive
drivers should be made to hand their car keys in to a little safe locked box at a pub and or club that can then only be unlocked by blowing into an alcolock device (just like those in volvo trucks) and blowing a reading of zero - the mouth pieces would be supplied just like the cops do in a little plastic baggie that you open attach to the machine and blow if you blow over 0 then the machine/ safe lock wont open & the police are informed of what you are trying to do - you wpuld then be given a warning by the coppers - tr it too many times and you get a scaled punishment ranging from a fine to a ban and points depending on how many times you try it
it sounds harsh i know but there are too many lives taken & ruined by mindless idiots
If this is part of an effort by West Yorkshire Police to provide this site with information about the cause of accidents, which is some thing I would like to see, surely we shouldn’t ■■■■■ at the at the bits we don’t like.

We shouldn’t “■■■■■” at things you like. Let’s turn off the internet now in case something you don’t like crops up.
Some body had a bad day!

Just a bit of background:You will recall the M62 Hen Party Incident. The Senior Officer at the
scene has never witnessed so much carnage in the whole of his career.
I was asked by West Yorkshire Police how we can cut down these daily disasters,
particularly involving HGV’s because I happened to be driving one at the time.I suggested that it may help if we got to know exactly how these incidents
occurred and perhaps we could learn from the mistakes of others.
West Yorkshire Police are looking into this and the owner of this website
has given the green light to publish anything helpful that WYP can supply.PS:
You may have seen elsewhere that the Minicoach Driver involved in the
M62 Hen Party Incident of 26/4/13 has today been arrested on suspicion
of causing death by dangerous driving. Initially the HGV Driver was arrested.
I find it strange that given all the recent ‘austerity measures’ and cut backs that the Police have the time ,budget and manpower to do the work of ROSPA and the HSE.
I’m not refering to the hands on operation of the Police in such scenarios, i’m refering to the media campaigns such as the video you have linked to.
Some people will have a hard time working out why they have no police cover due to cut backs and there we have an officer making you tube videos to warn truckers not to drink drive.

So do I. Not just strange but rather uncomfortable too. In the age of instant media that we live in, I have no doubt that every Police force in the country has a PR department or an outside consultant or advisor. No doubt this video will have passed through the hands of one of these agents, been the subject of a focus group, been pre-approved by senior officers, etc etc. At none of these stages were humility, or the dignity that every human being deserves, good enough reasons for somebody to put a stop to it.
Is it possible that this video could be outraging public decency?
It isn’t designed to stop people breaking the law, it’s designed for a OMG!!! WTF■■? Reaction, simply because it has to compete with so much other media.
I also find the proliferation of “Cop reality TV” shows disturbing. I find the sheer amount of them surprising and the content patronising. There is, however a darker undertone. The more of these shows that are shown, the more “normal” the presence of cameras in Police incidents becomes. The more common, the less likely people are to take exception to them, the more footage or the inference that footage can be obtained, the less avenues one has as a defence to an allegation against them in myriad situations. The less likely you are to contest a charge, the less freedom you ultimately have.
