guardian.co.uk/politics/2013 … ise-survey :unamused:

They don’t get paid nearly enough. Every GP gets paid more than a MP, even London tube drivers and some teachers aren’t that far behind. Many council Chief Executive Officers get paid more than the PM.

Typical of politicians. One minute they are saying no one can have a pay rise and cuts have to be made to services etc. Then they are wangling a large pay rise for themselves. Most of them have other incomes, with some being very wealthy.
Bunch of tossers!

They are not wangling anything, it was merely an anonymous survey, nothing more. And I agree with Conor, it’s not that well paid a job. Most of them could be earning much mre in the private sector. Should they be paid more right now? Probably not, wouldn’t be a great move.

I agree… If they want to attract quality candidates to become MP’s then they should pay more.

I think there are far to many MPs, But i also think they are underpaid.
£300000 per year for an MP. £450000 for a cabinet minister, and £600000 for the PM is about right.

Strange how that excuse doesn’t seem to apply to anyone else in the economy except those like bankers etc who’s faces fit. :imp: :unamused:

What about all the expenses they claim, half of which aren’t relevant to the job. I was referring to politicians in general.
Dennis Skinner is the only one that doesn’t take all his salary. He has given a lot of his away over the years. There aren’t many genuine MP’s who care about the people they represent like he does!

Even though its just a survey they should have a higher basic pay, then all what they spend during the course of the year should come out of their own pockets, then they might be more concerned about the common man.instead of living off the common man

You said in relation to this post they were wangling a pay rise. I just corrected you and pointed out it was only a survey

It does apply to others in the economy. If companies want good candidates they need to pay the right salary. (I’m talking at an MPs level now now lorry drivers)

No need to correct me.I was stating a fact. Most MP’s are getting more than double their salary with expenses and doing a lousy job.If they were in the private sector, they would be sacked for being a lazy lot of gits.

They are trying to be horribly greedy. They want a £20k raise, I would be happy if I was earning £20k!

The economy is going to hell in a hand-cart and they want to be paid more. Being an MP isn’t a badly paid position and it’s one of great privilege. They also have all sort of expenses paid and subsidized food and bars. They are receiving enough. somebody compared them to doctors. Maybe doctors are being paid too much?

As is said here on many occasions…,…
If they don’t like the pay find another job that pays more - no one made them choose to be an MP! Blood sucking leeches.

It would be worth paying them that IF they stopped claiming expenses outright.

That’s a living wage - So live on it instead of off us!

mps start off locally where they stand up and pledge to do the job for "the good of the community" that they represent some then progress up the ladder, some because they are/were good at serving the community, others because they frequent the right places, mix with the correct people,or simpley kiss the right backside. then for some reason they all (appear to) change into egotistical money obsessed dicks who dont give a midges willy for anyone other than themselves.how many subsidise there pittance sitting on the boards of companies (which may or may not be in thier constuencey) or/and attend “gatherings” and deliver a speech for payments?? in my opinion the majority are not to be trusted. whats the alternative■■? im afraid i dont know the answer. i`m only a lowly driver who is just happy to have a job at all

MP’s are overpaid …its allways the case the rich living off the backs of the poor…and making all the rules, you dont need to be an mp or a lord or a prime minister…any idiot can tax you to death…ie put fuel duty up ■■■■ up booze…all a working mans pleasure which they dont even consider because they can afford petrol at any cost etc not like a lot of us counting the pennys not the pounds…the divide gets bigger.

I tend to agree with you but by dropping the starting Police Officers pay to £19000 pa (a drop of 4k I believe) it seems the government doesn’t
