Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

Hi Fin,
You must have worked with David Watts, who was originally from this Village, lived at Bishopstone, now Staunton On Wye,his family still live just around the corner from me,he must be well past retirement age now, last I heard he was valetting cars at Steels Westgate.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave.I see Sun Valley was mentioned. Are they still going at Hereford,Wincanton did a lot for them and some of the trailers were tri-axle sheds with underslung fridges. They used to come into Maltby depot regular, sometimes backloading for Bristol or Chepstow.

Yeh thats right ,Im not sure if Wattsy might have given his car licence up 4 health reasonss so couldnt get into Steels any more ,so haven`t seem him for a while not 100% sure though Dave

Hi Chris,
They are still going, the factory side now called Cargill Meats, don’t know what the feed mill runs under. Fin is the man to tell you that.
Cheers Dave.

Ok Fin will ask one of his brothers when I see them,he did a bit for N H Jones on an eight wheel tipper after Sun Valley packed up,different type of job for him at his age, they used to laugh that he wore a collar and tie,but I always found him ok,he’s a few years older than me.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Fin,
Good pics, know where the Heath is,just below the A44,can see the big sheds from the road. Did you know Alan Herrits,he was in school with me,drove for SV,think he had some problems, not sure if he’s in this world anymore.
Cheers Dave.

Heard the name Dave ,must av been before my time ,unless he went on live haul or the fridges in town.

Probably was Fin,he would be in his sixties now, think he had a bit of trouble and was red carded. Haven’t heard of him for years, just a name from the past now.
Cheers Dave.

Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave,
You thought right. It was really horrible.I didn’t see to many vehicles going in,Perhaps it’s to close to Christmas.

Hi Boys
Malcolm Harrison seems to be having regular plant sales on Prees Heath now, to the uproar of the locals, maybe that has got somthing to do with the shortfall at Shobdon.

Regards Keith.

Hi Tony & Keith,
Have seen the Malcolm Harrison sales at Prees Heath advertised in the Commercial moter, would imagine the way things are there is enough of kit for sale to keep both places going, also sounds as if there will be even more for sale in the new year.
Cheers Dave.
