Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

When I was a nipper, I remember that Dee Valley’s motors were the first I had seen fitted with air horns. I thought it must have been a “proper” truck driver to have a shiny 8-wheeler with air horns!

Same as me kiddo!

Boy how I lusted after those big air trumpets! But when I asked my Uncle to put a set on my S20, he said…“If you are driving daft enough to need Gabriels Trumpet…then you will end up at the Pearly Gates very quick”…so I never had any…and the horn on my Foden went “squeak squeak”…so I never used it…and missed the Pearly Gates as well…

Ah, the folly of youth!

Cheerio for now

Put an air horn on a Foden with only a four pot Gardner in it and the wagon would probably stop and travel backwards from the blast when you blew it!

Pete.

Good evening all.
I remember the day when FCJ 882D arrived brand new in Sharples yard.
She was a 8 wheel long wheel base flat bed when she arrived, many years later shortened and converted into a tipper!
Spent her early years on change over on Midlands Intensive work, South Wales / Midlands.
Driven by the late Percy Hall and Walter Greenhous R.I.P.
Does anyone know if she still exists??
Best regards Jack.

Last 4 from Prees Heath,
