hiya,
Dave was Lloyds old Maudslay 8 legger present??, that is a nice old motor i drove a 1939 model for a short while when i first kicked off now that was hard work,no heater no nowt the only plus was it looked well and was well maintained, i think the boss only let me drive it because he thought i would’nt be able to manage it and would have given the other older guys something to laugh about, i proved him wrong drove it it tipped it and re-loaded it and got it back without scratching the paintwork, and yes the Guvnor did give it a good coat of looking at on my return, only left that job because it was only local work and i wanted to get stuck into journey work, the boss did give me a good reference and told me to come and see him if i ever needed a job, people used to say i was the youngest legal 8 wheeler and trailer driver in Britain just 21 and a few weeks of age when i left for pastures new.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Harry, This is the only Maudsley I have seen of Lloyds,at Gaydon a couple of months ago.Don’'t know if they have an eight legger.

Seen at Hereford this Iveco tipper.Have never seen anyone operate one of these in the quarries this way. They don’t look a bad vehicle, strange that nobody has tried one.

Hi Dave Dad used to run a Fiat 159 Iveco 4 wheeler in the 80s. That was a good lorry. The only problem he had was the reverse was too fast for the sites he went to. It had the trilex spoked wheels. once he got used to them they were alright. when they joined with Ford it was a job to get parts for it. Dont know much about Ivecos now. nobody runs them here either.
this is the only pic i have of it.

Look’s as if you ran a few lorries then Merfyn. I remember someone this way with a Fiat, but the only Iveco’s around here are Gammond’s or Mervyn Thomas artics and rigid flats,no tippers.
Cheers Dave.

this is the photo of the 3 lorries together

that was taken in 1989 just when i started driving. I had the scania 81 4 wheeler tipper. dad drove the scania112 artic and Gareth the driver drove the fiat

240 Gardner:

Dave the Renegade:

David Edwards from Knighton Atkinson with an engine which might interest Dennis :exclamation:

Nice to see this one out and about again - previously it was operated for many years by P H Antell from Shillingstone in Dorset, and had a tidy-looking sleeper conversion on it. It was said to have bee the last Borderer built (though not the last Atkinson) but I can’t say whether that has been substantiated.

hiya,
Just goes to show the dedication of these people a sleeper cab would i suppose been useful at these shows but to get the old girl back to “from the factory condition” the sleeper pod has been removed and does’nt she look great, nearly good enough to bring me out of retirement looks good enough to put back to work and i bet capable of another million miles.
thanks harry long retired.

And here it is in its working condition Harry, complete with the sleeper:
