No, it will stay on your card until it gets overwritten when the cards memory is full, that could be 9 to 12 months, or until you replace your driver card when it expires or gets lost/stolen.

Its funy thst when you were rushing home for this emergency you also forgot to remove your card and now its been lost along with any infringements.

Oh just checked mine . It’ll go back to 20.02.2013 on the card

VOSA will not be interested after 6 months and TBH if a detailed manual explanation is given then I doubt they will prosecute for a one off EMERGENCY

Thanks for all the helpfull replies ive got my answer and should now sleep easy.

Unless you can prove it was a genuine emergency and there was no alternative but to keep going, it would be a very generous VOSA bod that turned a blind eye to a driver going 2 hours over the driving time.

I’m not 100% sure, but I dont believe that is correct.

If it isn’t already catered for surely there should be a dispensation to allow a driver who has a genuine emergency to drive home or to the hospital where he/she is needed.

With average use, the last 28 working days are stored on the driver card and the last 365 days are
stored in the mass memory of the vehicle unit (VU).
The mass memory operates a rolling system in which the latest data automatically overwrites the oldest
stored data.
Earlier data is lost if it has not been downloaded or backed up on another data storage media.

A driver card will hold a lot more data than 28 days, it will hold more than 28 weeks, it may even store over 12 months data, it depends how many times you change mode, stop and start and do manual entries

What would be the ramifications if one lost a card? I know you have a time limit and have to make manual entries but you can get a replacement ok?

There are none to losing a card except having to pay for a replacement. Replacement cards sent to your local DVLA office or VOSA/DVSA test station for you to collect.

Replacement cards are sent direct to your home address.

Is that a recent change? I lost one back in 2008 and IIRC they wouldn’t post it out to my home address.

It changed about four years ago I think, I’m not sure exactly how long ago it was changed but cards are definitely sent straight to your home now.

+1 mine was
