Welcome to canada

I can quite honestly say I’ve never had a knock back from any of the firms, maybe because I’ve never taken it far enough yet but I do still get regular e-mails from 2 or 3 certain companies HR dept asking if I’m any further down the “will we/won’t we” road after I completed the initial enquiry forms.

Be honest unless your a total “numpty” and as long as you’ve had a HGV licence for a couple of years very few of the Canadian companies will turn you down.
You are right that BFS seems to be one of the companies that get PR for the drivers very quickly.
The whole OTR driving lifestyle of many nights away from home, CPM wages,LOTS of sitting about NOT getting paid,“low miles means low money” is just not for me.
I think many others find its not for them either but they have unfortunately made the move for 3/6/12 months before reality sets in :exclamation:

don’t think many would choose that lifestyle apart from the odd single bloke but the firms offering that type of work are the ones that make it, at least on the face of it, easy to go.
no doubt there some good jobs to be had but they take some more finding and require a bit more input this end from the driver i.e challenger offered me an interveiw, the job paid decent money compared to most, three or four nights out etc but no pnp although we’d have qualified through the points system as we have family there and they say you take priority because your already there working i still passed it up in favour of a lower paid job that was two weeks away and more at a time because it was easy to sort, thats probably completely the wrong way to go about it and maybe a mistake that some others have already made?

I had a good look at Challenger too as they have a very good website and seem to have the recruiting drivers thing off to a fine art :exclamation: :exclamation:
I think I could hack the 3/4 nights away thing alright maybe running regional as opposed to the 10/12 “■■■■■■■■” long haul nights away. :sunglasses:

As you point out they are based in Ontario which has no PNP for truckers so its a gamble on a Temp WP and then see if you can get PR from there.
I don’t even know if its possible to even get PR via a TWP

you get residency through the old immigration route where you and the missus have to amass a minimum of 67 points obviously if one or both of you are working there that goes along way to achieving that but it’s still pretty tough, we only qualified because of the extra points for having canadian family living in ontario, other than that you need some serious qualifications like a bachelors degree etc to get near it.
not 100% but i think you still apply to london even though your already in canada.

There are to many ‘soft’ people who veiw 10 or 12 days away as a big drawback for a job in Canada. What a joke, try 6 or 7 months away from your family then see how it feels. My wife and i are used to the seperation, 2 weeks away is a doddle, if your not used to being away from family dont consider driving long haul in Canada, simple as that.

point is, what did you get paid for those six or seven months?

Did your 6 or 7 months away involve living/sleeping in a truck or were you in the forces
Bit of a difference :exclamation: :unamused:

BTW,
I am just a bit too “soft” to want to spend 95% of my life living out of a 6’X6’ tinbox :exclamation: :exclamation:
You will also find those 10/12 days away driving long haul in Canada,2 of them you will have “worked” for FREE and you’ll find that out after working there for a while :exclamation:

We have a new pet here now. I bought a budgie. It twitters on in the same tone all the time, too.

If you come here expecting easy street then they will be disappointed. If they come here expecting to be treated like slaves then they will be pleasantly surprised because that has not been my experience.

Paul, I hope you don’t think that I “big it up” because I say it as I see it.

BT, get a life. Find a new axe to grind on a different subject. Work 2 days for FREE? Really?

Not as far as I know.

Have you named it yet?

I thought as your away so much for FREE maybe the members on here could help you out a bit and pick the name.
Give it a week and then we`ll pick the name with the most votes.

I`ll go with,

Big Truck

He, bigtruck, almost makes me lugh, Neal. Almost!

A LOT of drivers return, do they? Is this the LOT that get stirred up on the expat site? The ones who came here expecting something easy? The ones who are not used to the idea of being away for a time?

So it wouldn’t suit big truck, eh? Who cares? I would simply like to see him find a new axe to grind. I am sure that there is a pigeon fanciers forum that needs a little winding up.

I also know that he put enough doubt in one persons mind that they refused to accept what was said to them by the recruiters in the UK. They also now consider that I have been dishonest and that will not do as I have not been dishonest about the work, country or company in any way.

The only dishonesty has come from him. He has preached and peddled nonsense about something he knows nothing about. Another RobK in the making.

People like that make me sick.

bloody hell bob, you having a bad time of it mate?
for what it’s worth i’ve always considered you opinions as the ones to listen to, simply because you seem to paint a realistic picture and don’t try to make it seem better than it is unlike a few who post on some other forums who’ve got so carried away trying to convince people how clever they’ve been it sounds like they’re describing a two week holiday on the costa del sol rather than a long distance truck driving job.

Show me where I’ve been “dishonest” :imp:

You don’t drive two days a month for free eh
YOU are paid computer based “Rand McNally” mileage which “usually” means it comes up 10% short on what you have driven “hub mileage”:
Drive 10’000 miles/month, paid 10% short which means 1000 miles which is about 2 average days driving is it not  :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :sunglasses:

BTW,
you have been dishonest to me when you said that you only knew of a couple of ex-UK guy’s who had left BFS since you started when in fact it turns out there have been many :exclamation: :exclamation:
While we’re on the subject,
that $250 that you turned down from BFS for every driver you “recruited” from the UK are you still refusing that “perk”

We have not seen eye to eye in the past , :exclamation: but are you saying BTD has a hidden agenda with his postings about Canada :open_mouth: , ie $250 per driver he recruits for BFS I was wondering why he was singing there praises so much when so many had left :open_mouth: unbelievable :open_mouth:

So This Cartoon Has got some meaning :open_mouth:

Well well! The truth always outs! Doesn’t surprise me in the slightest though. Anyone with even a grain of sense knows that it’s all hype and lies. :unamused:

I do not take any sign on bonus now, same as ever. Clear enough for you?

I always said I wouldn’t.

As for the firm, you know how well they acted when AJ was sick, so poke it, BT. I can only say about what happens to me- my situation- and that is what I put on here.

Regarding those that have left, several have recently, but of the first 10 drivers who chose to come here, instead of being recruited, only 1 has left so far.

The recent situation with the US$ and with a new set of dispatchers has made some others leave. It is not my concern who stays or goes. Because I don’t take any sign on bonus, I don’t have to worry about it, do I?

But the post you are referring to was made months ago when virtually everyone was happy and settled.

It just goes to show where your intent is. It’s insidious and unnecessary. Little wonder that people like you have to re-register every now and then under new usernames, is it?

Again, you are wrong about the miles. We are paid city centre miles. It sort of averages out about right if I am honest. They don’t use Rand miles, either. If there is a major discrepancy then they will add the miles on. And the way you stated it had nothing to do with miles paid, did it?

So you are questioning my honesty when you are blatantly distorting your meagre experience, same as always. You have no reason but you insist on carrying on.

Question my integrity if you will. If ANY of you think I have any hidden agenda then feel free to ring Eric or Jeff and ask if I have ever received any sort of sign on bonus. 1 800 665 0415.

RobK, I see you haven’t changed. £48000 a year or has it gone up now?

Oh yeah right :unamused: . They’re really gonna admit to it aren’t they. :unamused:

RobK, I see you haven’t changed. £48000 a year or has it gone up now?

No, still 48k. Why, are you jealous? Must be hard for you to grasp with you living out in the sticks at -20C all year round, with your 3000 hectares of land and your 2 cents per km job.

Come on BTD

you have said yourself that the staff at BFS are not to be trusted  so why would we trust them
To be honest you have managed to stir things up a lot in earlier posts with your constant wittering about how good Canada is :open_mouth:, and what you have achieved all on your own :unamused: big deal :exclamation: , and in the process managed to get some good members removed just because they have disagreed with you.

These are my observations  nothing personnel
