While filling in various quotation requests for motor insurance I came across an option in the occupation section for a professional driver

HOWEVER…

Professional Driver

For insurance purposes, ASDA Insurance considers a professional driver to be:
a taxi driver
a chauffeur
a driving instructor
a fast-food driver
a courier
in the motor trade

I think you will find this is not a personal slur against HGV drivers as you seem to think, but only a means of the insurance company finding out if it it is going to be insuring a driver who will be using the vehicle in a business type role, ie picking up fares as a cab driver or driving many different vehicles as a mechanic etc where the insurance required will be of a higher level then your normal tom ■■■■ or harriet insuring their personal vehicle.
They have left HGV driver off because they dont insure HGVs and I dont think many people would try to insure a Truck through Asdas own insurance unless they support Norwich City and cant understand the form.

That would be the form that their cousin from Ipswich had passed on, after trying to insure his tractor
I think Dogmanbodie was trying to insure his private car, the comment is about employment catorgories, Tractor Boys what :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

 I think it just means you don’t drive a car professionally. Be careful about saying your a professional driver with some ins co’s, because that’ll put the cost up not down, so I’ve heard mind. :open_mouth:

I’ll never understand insurance companies. I’ve only ever claimed once after my car was vandalised and have had the maximum no claims discount but it still keeps rising :imp: :imp:

And yes I was trying to insure my private car

Ended up with Churchill in the end - Ahh yess

apparently premium usually does rise when you tell them your occupation but what can you do, you can’t lie otherwise your insurance will be invalid in the evnt of a claim - worse than bluddy safety cameras

what u need o do is what i do say u worked as a training to ba nurse at the start of the year and then change your jpb two day,s later it work,s and the quote dont go up and u have not leid because all you have to do is fill a form inquire form out save,s me £300 on my insurance but then again i have to i do have a impreza turbo sorry about the spellin

A lot of insurance companies dont like HGV drivers, I found this out when I moved to Derbyshire. My bike insurance came down in price because I have a posh postcode  My car insurance was £40 more.

I shopped around and the premium was similar, but because I was working at DHL, I put my occupation down as warehouseman and saved £85. After all I spent more time in the warehouse than on the road :exclamation:

Never lie to the insurer though

Some years ago when I was regularly driving down here for holidays and bringing furniture, I changed my car for a Berlingo van. I thought that that would reduce the premium, but in fact it doubled and when I tried to go elsewhere they refused even to quote. I asked for an explanation and they said ‘it’s because there are so many DJs using vans to cart all their gear and as they are out late and drinking they have a lot of accidents.’ ’ So why don’t you just refuse DJs’ I said ‘or refuse to honour claims from people using their vehicles in this way.’ ‘This is because,’ they said, ‘when these DJs kill people insurance is required by law to compensate the next of kin, irrespective of the terms of the insurance.’

You can’t win, but as I have never broken a vehicle in my life, and claiming for theft damage was a complete runaround costing more than the damage, for many years now I have only had 3rd party. Saved pounds by insuring myself

Salut, David…

Tell insurance companies and any organisation you want money off that you’re a department manager for a well known high street bank. They will still ask for your company address and a work contact number but be very vague and say you’re not sure of the address and you don’t know your work contact number off the top of your head. They never ask for it again and never check it up, even if you do have a bump in your motor which was your fault.

Trust me, I know, I’ve been doing it for decades and saved thousands on insurance and also had some cracking deals on personal loans in my time too.

There’s a website somewhere that lists all the major job categories and shows you how insurance and finance companies rate them. Being a driver - of any kind - is very near the top of the list when it comes to hiking the premium up, trust me. It’s to do with being on the road all day getting wound up dealing with traffic and stuff and then driving home in your own motor after a hard day, feeling tired and short-tempered; they claim that you are something like ten times more likely to have an accident due to tiredness, frustration etc than someone that works in an office type environment because of this.

The best job can you be in for low insurance premiums and being able to get finance is a managerial position in a bank. Don’t ask me why though …

Thats easy Rob, these people will never take a risk :stuck_out_tongue: You only have to look at all the Sorry, letters I get when applying for a loan

 Sorting out motor insurance is so immensely dull, dull dull.

After reaching the level of ‘no claim discount’, ‘protected no claim discount’ is needed, in order for your premium not to rise in the event of such a claim.

Now please excuse me while i slip into a coma.

my insurance company dont have professional driver listed at all. i tried that one last year

Insuring a Range Rover 3.5 V8 Vogue, if I was a “Lorry Driver/Truck Driver” then the quote was 580 fully comp. “Customer Services” was 310 FC !!!

Huh?

Oh ok, that means I’m a Customer Services Representative then!!!
