BUT … Now there is another that has appeared with a totally different spec. Says it is ‘Personal’ But offering package deals.
And it is right up there on Google sponsored links.
IF it is ‘E.D.’ then they have been going for some time. I met them on a regular basis when I was testing out of Weedon for most of 2005
I met one of the instructors (Barry) from E D Training last week. He used to be with Truck East when they did driver training in Peterborough. He’s a nice friendly guy.
MADBAZ:
I’m in the process of booking my class ‘c’ I very nearly went with Qualitas Training LTD■■? aka Stirling Training (same 0845 number), in Essex…
The attraction was “FREE” C+E after passing C and operator CPC’s for only £1300. But fortunately I started to smell a rat and did some googling and found posts and blogs by peeps who’d passed the cpc and rigid but the C+E training wasn’t honoured.
Do you have links to these blogs/posts? I’ve tried googling but couldn’t find them myelf. As a Sterling customer (I know, I know… )with C now done and CPC exams just taken as a pre-requisite to doing C+E I’m very interested in this

Dr Dubya,
I have just done a google search (which is what I did originally) and I like you can no longer find the blog I referred to, but it did go along the lines of the chap had done cat c then did cpc but when he wanted cat c+e they basically kept fobbing him off.
What put me off them was the fact they use LTD in their literature but are in fact a dissolved company, I just got a bad feeling from them, their t&c’s were just a little too long and only covering their backsides, without an guarantees on their commitment to the trainee, there were lots of ‘hidden charges’ The final straw was being listed in googles sponsored links, which IMO, anyone listed there is to treated with caution. I ain’t sending my well earned cash 200 miles away to an multi-faced outfit who just don’t give the right vibes. I used to live in Leeds (where they have a ‘training centre’) and I am still quite well connected, and no-one has heard of them or seen them so I can only assume they act as an intermediary to a proper training school (Clearstones marketing model). As I said it’s easier to go to Leeds than Essex to see someone face to face if something goes awry
Sterling do actually have their own vehicles and have them all around the country True they do not have offices or classrooms, seemingly working from a yard where their vehicles are parked. I do chat with one of their instructors on a regular basis and he is a nice guy.
As to their marketing, I cannot really comment, save to say it’s not the way I would conduct myself, but plenty of guys are happy with them. Of course there is no such thing as ‘a guaranteed pass’, and they are not the only company who indicate that there is.
AFAIK Sterling took over Qualitas and the two companies are amalgamated now.
The review that there is a link to tells a tale of a guy who took 9 tests - not sure if he ever passed, but one has to ask as to whether he was cut out to drive a truck at all.
As regards J Coates ‘kind’ offer to people who have lost money with Clearstone, I’m sure you will find that most other training companies will do the same if you ask. Its just that they ‘got in first’.

Cheers Madbaz for the link. It would seem that Chris Waywell had no shortage of perseverance, but 9 failed tests does suggest that maybe it wasn’t his natural forte
So far I’ve found Sterling has delivered on it’s promises: the vehice was relatively new (no more than 18months old), the training was 2:1 as they said in advance though my first day was 1:1 which was exhausting (plus reading on the DSA site I found they recommend 2:1 anyway). The instructor didn’t waste time dicking around with extended tea breaks (as someone else reported on here re their training company)
On the negative side, I did think the instructor was old-fashioned in his teaching methods (ex-military instructor) and wasn’t really aware that different people learn in different ways and I had to ask him to try a diferent approach (ie don’t talk at me all the time while i’m driving). As for the four day course, with the test at lunchtime on the fourth day! I can’t complain too much.
seeing as I passed, but 3.5 days is far far too little for comfort and I didn’t feel ready at all.

Lets watch this space.
I have heard o good authority that the wbsite I was wondering about is not related to Clearstone in any way and is a bone fide company.
I must be getting paranoid
