A ROYAL Marine had a miracle escape after a rock was dropped from a bridge on to his car on a busy motorway.
Corporal AJ Orchard from Bournemouth was driving at night along the M3 under the A27 bridge at Chilworth when suddenly a three-inch by four-inch rock smashed through the sunroof of his car.
Amazingly AJ, 27, from Charminster, managed to escape unscathed from his ordeal.
AJ said: “It could have easily killed us.
“I was overtaking a lorry and it came out of nowhere and the roof literally shattered and glass was everywhere inside.”
Fortunately AJ kept his cool and managed to avoid swerving his Renault Megane, which he puts down to serving in the Afghanistan war.
He said: “We pulled over and my missus found the stone in the back.
“It was the size of two fists and too big to have been a chip off the road. I realised it must have been thrown.
“Luckily we had the sunroof curtain over and it caught most of the glass.
“Imagine if it had come through the windscreen at 70mph, or if it had come through the sunroof and knocked me out and I had gone out of control and crashed — it could have caused a pile-up.
“I don’t know what was going through the head of whoever did this.
“If you are going to throw a rock like that off a bridge you must know it could do damage.”
A police investigation is now underway to hunt down the person responsible.
A police spokesman said: “It is highly dangerous and it could cause a serious accident. Anyone who does it will also find themselves having to face the consequences of their actions.”

from a bridge at Rockferry (nr Bikenhead) that when through the windscreen of a iicr
sprinter van killing the 25 year old driver instantly.this happened about 5 years ago.
I think the chap who threw the battery got away with a find and community hours.
On the A12 nr Chelsmford there,s been a spate of this bricks off bridges for the last year
as you pass a bridge their,s a warning…a bridge number and a contact number to call.
if you see anyone throwing bricks…I,am sure the culprits will wait until the police come
and give their names.
The problem is the newspaper reports on this happening. then other idiots think thats
good, we.ll try that for a passtime

Should be a murder/attempted murder charge. What possible other reason can you have for wanting to throw anything at moving traffic?

am i right in thinking that there was a similar incident a few years back on the m3, that ended up with a fords wagon driver having a heart attack and sadly dying■■? think something that was thrown went through his screen, he managed to get truck on the hard shoulder, but sadly died. (i could be wrong.) if i’m right, was anyone ever caught?
think the a12 attacks have been going on for a while now, absolute scum could end up as a very serious incident 1 day

I believe Ford offered a substantial reward for the conviction of the scumbags.
These “kids” will grow up and end up in prison more than likely so they should just nip it in the bud now and hand out heavy sentences.
Being a kid is no excuse I’m affraid, when I was younger I done some stupid things like we all did but I would never even think about throwing a brick into traffic… These kids DO know what will happen so in that case they should go to jail early and for a long time.
Also they should cage all footpath bridges in my opinion, if its not bricks being thrown its someone wanting to jump off it.

If he had served in the SAS he would have done a 180 whilst keeping control of the car and as he passed 90 degrees leant out the window with his Glock and popped a cap in the ■■■ of the guy who threw the rock , only goes to show how poorly trained the Marines are
i was coming up the M42 wednesday night and as i was approaching a bridge a gritting wagon drove over the bridge and i thought id been machine gunned!!! a hail of stones bounced off my screen leaving 1 thumbnail size chip and a couple of smaller ones…beware the orange flashing lights passing above?
