Mike… Is an HGV Class 1 the only Qualification needed…regards Tony
Hi Tony.Obviously hgv license is required but there are a few local certifications which are required for driving in the mining industry such as underground and above ground safety certificates, evacuation certificate, railroad certificate[for use above ground in railhead area],and if you work outside of the mine of course the digi card.
You can use your UK HGV license until it expires then you must Exchange it for the Swedish equivalent[if you are living here].
The local certificates can be obtained with the help of your prospective employer. Most of them are done via computer and can be done in English.
Many thanks Mike, Point clarified…Tony
Hi, I know it’s been a few months since the last post on this thread. Do you know if this type of work is still available? I’ve got experience of driving in Norway and love this part of the world.
Thanks
Hi.I haven’t spoken to my old boss for a few weeks now but i know he was ordering 1or 2 new road trains for the work soon.I’m not sure when the trucks will arrive. The problem now is the winter has arrived,so first the work has slowed down in the mines and outside due to the ground starting to freeze and unless you have good winter driving experience people will be cautious about taking you on now.
In any case you have to come up here to talk with people,as i stated in the post.In the early spring is the best time to talk to people about work as you have the whole summer to prove yourself.Good luck.Mike
Hi Mike,
Thanks for letting me know. That works for me as I have a contract running until the end of the year, so might jump on a flight some time in the New Year. Is it ok to keep in touch and get the details of who to speak to etc. early 2016?
Thanks again.
Iain
Hi Iain.No problem, keep in touch. As i said in the post it’s better to come up here and ‘‘lay out your stall’’ with the people.Remember,if you have worked for the Norgies don’t try to bulls— the people here as most of them have forgotten more than you know. They have no problem helping a so called ‘‘newbie’’ if your genuine.
In the spring there lots of different jobs about due to the short summer with 24 hrs Daylight so if the job with Per Åke doesnt work out you can pick up something else to get started, and if your any good you will get permanent employment by the end of summer.Mike
