Good morning all
first post so please go easy.
I am hoping to get some advice from some of the many professionals in the forum.
My background -I am 53year old, retired chef and looking to start in HGV driving. I have done the medical, got my provisional and booked myself in for the theory test this Thursday. I passed my car driving test pre-1997.
Once I have passed my test What do you think would be the best way to get my first Job?
I would have no problem with working weekends or staying on the road for long periods as my kids have all left home and I believe it would suit me. I have watched a good number of youtubers and find the tramping life appealing.
Cheers

Where are you ?
Agency, direct to Transport managers at depots.
Get everything done first, my medical to Mod 4 took 8 months in total due to waiting times.
As the current holder of a LGV C1 you can do the 35 hours CPC now either online or in classroom
Getting a digicard now as well would help
With both of the above you could drive LGV C1 for a job whilst awaiting for C/CE training

That’s what I did. Gets you accustomed to the tachograph if nothing else, but more importantly the experience of a larger vehicle is great for your training and test.
Thank you for all your very helpful replies and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
I am based in Glasgow treverking1964.
I will do as ROG suggested and figure out how to get a digicard and get the cpc training out the way as soon as possible. If I get my finger out, I might be able to get some experience before Xmas. Great suggestion about getting some experience with tachograph and large vehicle manoeuvring as well.
I am glad I posted.
Thanks again Gents

I had you in Cornwall with a name like that [emoji6]
Happy St Andrew’s Day
You are up against it for Xmas for 7.5 tonne now with a tacho card still to get and 5 days of training to do.
If it had been a month ago I might have been saying try Manpower for Royal Mail work out of the mail centre near Springburn. Once it gets into December the recruitment drive would probably be over as the bods will be in.
