my late father (charlie balfour) drove for wakes,i rember seeing that F88 in their yard down valletta street when he used to take me away with him in my school holidays. it was the only one of the three motors to make it back to hull .happy days.

Hi Wake Bros / Nigeria road Service hull this was a one way trip for them toNigeria as all there trucks came back by boat to England as most fell apart in the conditons Harshness of Sahara Dessert thay parked in Compound in Cano Nigeria we did the same trip by road and sea to cano Nigeria this was September 1975 the scots firm was Thomas Bone Shiping who undertook the whole operation to drive 3ooo mile trip to nigeria va the Sahara Dessert hauling aload of trailers knockdown form from Crane Frauhauf Oldham Thomas Bone Shipping was the Scottish based Company ever to achive a successfull crossing of trans Sahara Route and unload in cano Nigeria iwas driveing on this trip 140 Scania there was 5 drivers 4 Scania and 1Volo 88 in the convoy malay57

They must have rebuilt the Volvo then because I remember it was quite a regular sight around Hull and on the roads for several years. Unless it was another Ken Wake identity crisis before Mainstream Motors was born KKH 794R

my old mate colin coupland was one of the drivers that went on that trip.he drove fo mat transport after he left wakes.billheads have you got any pics of mats trucks from over the years.
