I have to ask: Why does a chill plant need a windsock?
I thought they were used on small airstrips to show approaching pilots which way the wind is blowing…

Most cold stores use ammonia. The windsock is in case there is an ammonia leak. You look to see what way the wind is blowing, and basically run in the opposite direction. That way you shouldn’t be gassed by the leaking ammonia.
