VOSA and speeding :)

Morning all. I drive a 54 plate daf cf with the chart tacho fitted  when on single carriageway sometimes i dont do 40 mph  and i was just thinking if i get pulled in would i get done for speeding by vosa?

Thanks in advance
Onward!!!

I thought it could be used as additional evidence but not as a sole means of prosecuting for speeding. You had to be caught by a car with video or a speed trap, that sort of thing.

When im on single carridgeway flat out for me mate and if im held up by sado people driving at 39 they get the road rage treatment until i can overtake lol makes the day more interesting lol

Drivers have been prosecuted with tacho evidence where there are no motorways or d/c within x miles of base and yet their trace shows 50mph +.

Unless you are on job and knock or have a death wish, what’s the point in breaking the limits set?

VOSA cannot prosecute for speeding - that is the remit of the police only

VOSA could inform the police of frequent ‘suspected speeding’ but only in rare cases in court could tacho evidence alone be used

There’s nothing vosa can do about speeding showing on tacho. Although if your yard is miles from a m/way & your regularly doing 56 on the way home the local TC may want a chat.
Also the police will use it in evidence if you have an accident, even if it wasn’t your fault they will say the lorry was speeding…

+1

BUT, I’m on job and knock, and still don’t speed - will exceed 50mph on a dual if I’m passing someone doing less, but will always drop back down to 50 when clear.

Wages just don’t cover the cost of a speeding ticket + repercussions, so I can’t be arsed speeding

No ,tacho charts cannot be used as proof of speeding ,they can be used as evidence that speeding may have been a contributory factor in accidents but not proof

hopefully your mate will pay all your funeral costs, when your wife and kids bury you! :bulb: that’ll be an interesting day! Clown! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: just an aside, how much does your mate pay to run flat out? :open_mouth: £2.50 an hour? :unamused: drivers and screwdrivers :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

I always charge an hourly rate.

WTF would I want to speed? I don’t dawdle but I don’t exceed the limits. Used to ■■■■ off a bloke I worked for on boxes when driving the A14 to Fxto. He used to insist on driving on the limiter all the way there…till he got pulled… silly boy… :grimacing:

I think with VOSA, the squeakier clean you are, the easier your life is going to be.

I am on job and knock thats why i do it sometimes  if im on an easy day i stick to about 45mph but if its a big day i just pull my finger out and crack on

Exceeding 40mph = Death wish!!! Jesus wept…

I am currently waiting for the envelope to drop through the letter box.

A419 towards Cirencester, down the big hill with the layby at the bottom…dirty pox infested camera van sat there…sure i had let it drift up to 57/58 coming down the hill…

On another note, sitting on the limiter, 56 mph, on a DC should not attract any prosecution for speeding. The ACPO prosecution guidelines state 10%+2mph before prosecution. So, for a 50…that’s 57 by my maths before they should be prosecuting anyone.
Likewise sitting at 45 on a SC should not see anyone prosecuted.

I can only speak from personal experience but I have never once driven along a dual carriage way at 50, instead always being on the limiter which has been anything from 55 to 58mph and as such have gone past tens of dozens of camera vans and police cars with radar guns and not once has anything happened.

I’ve also gone past a camera van at least once on a single carriage way road on the limiter and never heared a thing about that either. Wether its true or not I dont know, but I’ve been under the impression that their speed guns are set for a certain speed and only records vehicles going over it so if its on a single carriage way and they’re targetting cars, they’ll be set at 60mph plus whatever leeway they are giving, so a truck going by at 56 wouldn’t register. Maybe thats complete pants, I dont know.

I would love to think it was true, would make me a very happy bunny! But knowing my luck lately, it’s complete pants! lol

Fingers crossed, you never know, maybe the cockroach in the van was reading his newspaper collecting some over time rate. Its been known.

Camera vans can only cope with one speed ,the readout beeps/flashes if that limit is broken so unless it was specifically targeting speeding lorries which is a distinct possibility then you won’t hear anything

Back on the speeding on a sc thing again :unamused:
