Believe it or not but I have seen drivers at my place trying to VOR truck because radio wasn’t working.
BTW I would try to do the same if it was MAN…
Any reason is good to VOR a shi**y MAN I like to say.
Hate to say it but I believe it mate (sadly)
I’ve seen some of the sorry arsed f/whits who impersonate drivers these days.
Btw…you are talking out of your arse about MANs, I’ve had the old style Roadhaus,.and the XXL cab doing Euro. Best cabs yet that I’ve had to live in, that is including the DAF Superspace and the ScaniaTopliner.
What have you had to come up with your opinion exactly?
I think he is talking [zb] tbh.
But I also think he will fit in just fine at any blue chip company.
Same has happened at my place, drivers doing a defect for non working radio, trying to VOR them.
Blue chip companies…more like f#cking chocolate chip!!

Back in about 1999 I was assistant TM at Meacher’s, Derby. Trucks which needed servicing went down on the night trunk, serviced during the day at Nursling, back up following night; regular driver had a day trip scheduled in the spare motor, which was an old but perfectly serviceable and decent EC10.
Driver of truck in for service (bit of a fussy bugger) came into the office one morning whining that he wasn’t taking N49 out to do one hit in Manchester cos the radio was faulty. Unfortunately he caught me on a bad day.
“Radio not working■■? FFS when I was driving we used to fight over the wagon that had power steering! Now [zb] off to Manchester… and whistle instead!”
He went. But he wasn’t whistling.
No doubt you also whined like [zb] if a day’s income was lost due to being stuck in traffic that a simple 50 quid fix and an hour getting it done would have prevented?
No, not at all. But as a driver, I wouldn’t expect the management to countenance a minimum hour’s delay in a third party workshop for something as trivial as a busted radio either; and it WAS busted the driver tried changing the fuse.
If any driver ever says he got stuck in traffic because his radio wasn’t working, it’s a classic case of a bad workman blaming his tools. In my experience, where HGV’s are concerned traffic bulletins are rarely of anything but limited use since the availability of alternative routes is invariably either restricted or non-existent.

PLEEEEASE tell me that you are not actually trying to make a case for justifying VOR ing a truck with a dodgy radio.
If I’ve picked you up wrong I apologise, …but if I am right I’m off to ■■■■■ my wrists, as it will tip me over the edge in terms of ‘‘Things are much worse with drivers today than EVEN I thought’’

Do what ! Have you heard the tripe that some stations play and their DJ’s spout (MrEvans BBC R2 ) [emoji6]
I turn the thing off some times
My sat nav has traffic on it

1999 was a different age in terms of vehicles, roads and traffic (pay probably the same or higher then though) along with choice of radio station and traffic information provided, but, after over 35 years I can justify any reason to VOR a truck on any given day simply because I feel like doing so. In 1999 I was out 4-6 days at a time, the radio was important to keep you sane (or as sane as you could be). A single day without a radio, yeah, would probably let is slide, back then and now, but not more than one day, why should I? To get the job done■■? Does putting up with any old ■■■■ gain you more pay? More paid time off? Any perks at all? Respect from your employer■■? Which is worth precisely what?

Yeah, did agency for your lot, your sat navs are not good, both in terms of traffic and chosen route, turn it off, buy some maps and learn the country! Haven’t used BBC stations since the wide range of local commercial stations sprang up, 20+ years ago?

Not one myself for ‘‘putting up with any old ■■■■’’ mate either, as I too have been in the job a while.
I have the radio on myself most of the day, not going to try and pretend it’s for work related vital traffic news cos it aint…it’s purely for me to relieve boredom.
Would I officially VOR my motor if the radio went?
No I wouldn’t, I would maybe unofficially ask our man to have a quick look, if he said he hadn’t time I would check the fuse then get it done on route asap to fit in with my day.
If it meant not get tipped for the day (depending that is whether the boss had ■■■■■■ me or not over something) , or not gettting back home, missing a boat, or generally just ■■■■ ing up my day, I would feel a bit pathetic with myself all for the sake of a radio.

Basically on the same page, I wouldn’t VOR because of a radio, but could easily find something else that needs doing (got a couple of things I’m holding back on at present until it suits me) which should get a radio fixed at the same time.
biggriffin:
Just defect it, and carry on.
Ars# covered, not your problems.
Wrong, just defecting a vehicle and carrying on, does not cover your Ars#,
Verbal defecting can always be denied, thats why its better making out a written defect report once that has been done the vehicle is VOR
Until such time the vehicle has been repaired, taking it on the road knowing there is a reported defect,no matter how trivial it may seem to you, puts the onus on you, for taking the vehicle out.

I mentioned this a few weeks ago when our outfit (4 trucks) said they were thinking of using the RHA app for defects. I said as it would be a live system and possibly available to dvsa, it would flag up on anpr and get a pull.
Markk80:
Office said it’s ok I said not taking it, thank you.
Other driver went out in this unit.
Light working fine, no sharp edges.
Night trunk only about 300 miles round trip.
Not sure myself if it’s legal but IMO a company with about 70 units in yard shoud have sort it out in no time. Instead of sending it out.

Jeez. This job is now officially [zb]! It’s a cracked lens, the light works, it’s not hanging out on its wires,it’s not held in with duct tape, drive on snowflake!
Christ your attitude stinks. Typical office bully boy. I wouldn’t work for you if you expected me to drive that ■■■■■■■ death trap…[emoji6]

I have to agree with what’s been said it’s not a VOR job by any means.
If it’s going to take any length of time to get a replacement light cover it may pay to put a Peirce of clear sticky tape over the crack to keep the damp out but beyond that it’s not a problem.
The daftest VOR I’ve seen was a bloke who VORd a unit because the front near-side tyre had been brushed against a kerb or something leaving that black scuff effect you get, other driver told him you can’t VOR a unit for that but he wouldn’t listen and was given another unit
By the way, I also disagree with your comments about MAN vehicles, the automatics can be a bit laggish on occasions but switching to manual mode overcomes that problem.
