Has anyone had this issue and if so is there a known fix?
Volvo FM 8x4 tractor and quad semi-trailer.
Reversed onto dock facing down a slight down-grade
Neutral selected
Footbrake applied
Parking brake applied

When footbrake released truck began to roll down the slope.
Hole discovered on air hose umbilical
So, the parking brake was not applied even though the systems said it was. Any experience with this? Seems like a major safety issue. Just happens that I had a second driver in the cab (unusual), if I had jumped out after applying the brake there would have been a major.
I’ve driven a unit that had a crack in the plastic switch lever starting from one side just above the hinge point which would only set the brake intermittently, the other times it treated it like a partial use of the brake control, so the dash light would come on but then drop off again. Noticed it on a run into London so there were plenty of traffic light stops to realise what was going on. I’m pretty sure you would still feel the notch each time though.
I don’t trust leaving it on “park” with the engine running, as it seems to slip off… Switch the engine completely off though - and the thing will come on solid, even if you’ve not applied it properly on that silly pull-out tag that does the deed…
I got into the habit of switching engine off when jumping out to open barn doors…
I don’t regret it.
Some of the terminology used hints maybe that this event did not happen in the UK or perhaps even Europe. Air brake plumbing is different in North America and in Australia/ New Zealand.
It doesn’t matter what the lever is set at if you have a hole in your line that goes between the lever and brakes. Fix the hole(s) in the system and I expect the lever will do what it’s supposed to do.
