I’am a Scania man at heart but I have to give Volvo a mention for a wonderful machine…
My friend of whom operates around 12 artic trucks has a Volvo FH16 520 and it is easily the best motor that I have had the privilege to be in… Apart maybe from the mighty Scania 143m 500, the king of the road…!!
The sheer pulling power of that motor is just mind blowing, and yesterday I was out along with my mate and he had a bulk milk tanker on and the weight was 45 ton, and slightly over it…
Unbelievable performance that truck put in over the course of the whole day, never missed a beat…I can’t explain fully how good this machine is…
So the new Volvo FH16 610 must be some weapon… …
Well done Volvo…
Cheers guys…
Trying to get some photographs arranged to post of the Volvo and of a Scania T-Cab that my friend has in his fleet…
I’ve tried both the FH 610 and the new 580 Scanny both at 40 and 65 tonnes and I can say the Volvo romped away on power but the Scania is ALOT better on fuel. Better cab on the Volvo to but the new R cab is a big improvement over it’s predecessor. Of all the high power trucks available I wish I could get hold of the 600 V10 MAN to try, that was truely awsome in the past if all you want is power!
Got to say out of the 2 i have driven being bottom end Scania and Volvo,s the Volvo is a far better truck for comfort, especially when yo are over 6 foot!!.
the only units i have driven are an FH12 and a scania 124. i very much doubt they are in the same category but that volvo has always been my favourite.
the scania was with asda so probably low spec anyway but the FH12 was a haulier in nuneaton. fastrack i think■■?
I saw a Spanish registered ERF in Paderborn yesterday with a fruit-juice tanker, delivering to Stute (big juice & jam place). It looked similar to the ‘L’ reg one I used to drive in '96.

I didn’t realise they were exported that far??!!
They were exported all over the world! NZ, Aus, South Africa, Thailand, South America to name but a few regions, I’ve seen French Registered ERF’s, I know of one in Venezuela and I even saw one on the outskirts of Washington DC back in 1996, it was a EC11 eight legger with no body, I finally got the lowdown on it from none other than John Bryant himself, who phoned me back after I left a message with his secretary, he also told me of two others that were over here at the time, though I did’nt see them.
Of course there is no such thing as a real ERF being made anymore, and that is a bloody shame!
