What is the point of the FE?
You have the FL which is available from 12t-18t, the FE at 18t-26t, and the FM at 18t-32t (In terms of rigids).
It has the same cabs and engines as the FL, and is actually quite hard to tell apart from it, the only advantage I can see is if you want a 26t but don’t want the size or cost of the FM, but even so wouldn’t it have made more sense to just do the FL up to 26t and not bother with the FE?
We’ve had nothing but trouble with these (18t and 26t). They were a lot cheaper than Daf Cfs and it’s shown in 2 years. King pins replaced, AdBlue faults, diff ratios reduced because they were geared too high, low chassis, not great on fuel unless driven VERY gently. I actually like driving them despite the small cabs, althought at the end of the day, they’re not really Volvos they’re Renaults with nicer badges. Even the engines are Maggie Deutz. With a crew cab I guess they’d be great fire engines or for short urban deliveries. Having said that the sleeper cabbed tippers I’ve seen look quite smart for the odd night out or a nice sleep at lunchtime…
That’s just it, Volvo designed motor built by deutz, ZF gearboxes with a ■■■■■■■■■■■ version of I-shift all stuck on a Renault chassis with a Renault cab. We would have been better off buying the Renault, better spec and cheaper than the Volvo for basically the same truck.
Because of the problems, our firm wont entertain trying the new FMX which I reckon could be a great truck for us…
try having a three man crew in one hopeless truck !!!
More Volvo than it is Renault content - Not for the better in some cases
