Hey, Pitty I wasn’t the driver.
Eric,Is that Janet St Porter sat on the bunk ?
Superb observation skills Sir. That is indeed Janet St Porter. She was studying the Drivers’ Manual thinking, “This is a November 1969 model. Surely the wipers should be at the bottom of the 'screen.”
Hey Anorak, the 88 is of between '67 and '69, before the F88 design was at the rear of the doors, and later had the bigger mirror arms.
About the film (police serie) it was called Polizei Ruf 110 and is from the DDR, but still today in rotation.
But who are the girls, don’t know but feel me at home with them everywhere.

If it had been 1969, I guess they might have chosen a vehicle from the other side of Sweden.

Hey, this is Jupiler too, and gives even a smoother drive.Eric,
I agree, however in a morning they look more like these pair…after Jupiler…

this is where they came from…
Here’s a shot of the old man with his 290, it was taken in a dynamite plant in Scotland.
Hey,
Is there someone who has experience with building in a Fuller box in a Volvo F88.
Have never done it.
It is to lower engine speeds on motorways, of course we can go for the easyest system and put in a 16 speed Volvo.
But the man who would drive it want to go for changes without clutching for saving his left leg, so Fuller is the real solution.
And I have spares enough for build it.
As I last year built the RTOO 913 from and RTO9509A, should I go the same way for a dubble overdrive.
For long trips on motorways and a heavy trailer on it, it would save a lot of fuel too.
Eric,
tiptop495: A friend of mine (Snowman from Southampton) had an F89 with a Fuller gearbox in it. More speed less engine revs so he said.
It was also a practice to replace the SR70 gearbox in the Intercooled F12 when the bearings failed. At the time the parts were so expensive and few gearboxes were available in exchange. I did consider it for the truck I owned, as shown but some spares became available at the last minute. I was quoted £900 for the Fuller gearbox plus fitting, cheap considering the bearings in the SR70 were more than that alone! This was in 1990.
Gazzer did you ever know or meet the gearbox man by the name of Dr Finlay (Bob) from Basingstoke, what a great bloke he was specializing in Volvo gearboxes on the side he worked for I think it was Eaton in Basingstoke but had all the special tools for Volvo. He used to do the 16 speed ones with all the spring loaded bearings as if you dismantled one of those with little knowledge the balls used to fly in all directions, think he did jobs for Rawlings back in the day. He was into heavy metal music and went to concerts with his kids another MH moment Buzzer.
New one on me Buzzer. Not heard that name bandied about.
My SR70 (12speed) was rebuilt by a crowd in the West Midlands…SG Smith IIRC??
It was they that offered the Fuller option.

Mc Phans in Australia ran F88s with 9-speed Fullers in. One was shipped to UK a while back for restoration - it’s mentioned on more than one of these threads here. The pic below shows one of the fleet in Oz. Robert
There were only 50 F88’s bought to Australia, they were 290s and were assembled at the Ivine plant in Scotland, one of them made it over here second hand to NZ. The Fuller boxes would have been fitted later after the SR61s would have let go.

IIRC, F88s (and other Volvos) were assembled from kits in Oz. If I am right, do you know how many were built? (I would do my own research, but I’m guessing you’ve got the answer ready! ).
f88/89 are a great looking truck they have a look of " come on then lets have ya!!" mean looking but practical better than all this auto crap we have today,ok they make life easier but not a real truck like an f88/9/f10/12 or a scania 111/141/142/143, never had the chance to drive an 88 but would love too,did the rest though!

Hey Gazzer, thanks for the info.
Eric,
I took this picture at the Gate transport café on the A2 at Dunkirk in the summer of 1970. Robert
