volvo f88

michel:
In Norway a TFB88 early version from haulage company Nor-Tra. Notice the rare front wheel for Scandinavian, more used in Swiss and Middle East.

Never see one with such a long wheelbase & two rear axles at least not one as early as that.

A few F88’s for this thread ( click on pic for full size )

This was my old 1976 290 which served us very well for 5 years until our first 5 transcons came into service.

Bob.

IJ Blakey Haulage from Hull ran a single F88 GAG100N was it’s registration number I often wondered what happened to it after Blakeys got rid of it, it was replaced by a Transcontinental WAT 505S, did anyone end up driving or operating it as it must have only been 3 or 4 years old when it was replaced.

That’s some serious iron protecting the fog-lights :open_mouth: Chris

Trilex  . Robert

Hey Robert, only Trilex on the fronr axle, why ■■? but you often saw that by the Norwegians.
At the trailers, only the wheels without tyre is delivered, the boss has still some good tyres laying in his prairie.
Need a good wage the trip to pay the tyres.

Hey, this was for sell a time ago, now in restauration I believe.
Even the trailer was, exhibit for snakes, only for a penny, nobody wanted it, today don’t know if sold ■■?
The trailer chassis was a nice thing, wide spead, double tyres and on springs still, Vanhool.

Gr Eric,

Hey, Here one in a film (La Menace) played at the Borca (with lots of Mack’s) company.
It had still refugees in the fridge, midden the '70’s, the time when lot’s of Portugees tryed
escape the poor country.

Eric,

Hey, drove this for a very short time, double tanker, food compartments and ADR compartments, in the days it was still allowed.
Eastern bloc with ADR, no cleaning problems, and reloading extracts of fruit.

Great pics but they need a bit of colour.

Hey, an old question about measuring HP 's or PS.
For exemple the F88, it was sold as 240/250/260 and 270 hp’s.
You had DIN SAE ISO and so on, but can nowhere find again the SMMT gross or net measurement ■■?
Who can help me to find it again, can’t find it again, even not on Wikipedia. :frowning:
And how was it measured■■? was it in HP BHP Englisch norm for PK/PS which had a little difference.

Eric,

Australian pre-1973 F88:
oldaussievolvos.com/pdfs/vol … ish%29.pdf
After 1973:
oldaussievolvos.com/pdfs/vol … den%29.pdf
I can’t find a reference to a GB spec “240”, but this CM article says the first 88s in the country had 260bhp DIn, same as the Aus ans Swedish ones.

Conversion from hp to ps, plus some explanation of the standards. I think there is more to it than that text says, although that was the last time I read it, which was about two years ago!

Thanks Anorak,

But, as DIN was with everything mounted, and SAE without , how was SMMT measured ■■? and in Net and Gross ■■?
By all ways of calculating from SMMT I never end up with the correct solutions. :frowning:
i think we will never know. :frowning:
Here an example of Scania’s 110 Super for us 275 PK DIN, 285 SAE was nearly never shown at Scania’s brochures.
