This is a page from a UK brochure from 1970. The photo along with all the others in the brochure is mainly from Scandinavian countries but, it clearly shows the red cloth trim. Also, check the G88 in the background. Regards, Stephen.

Thanks boyzee , thats the thing on here, you find out something new everyday , never seen a red seat one myself , don’t understand how your 71 had blue seats though ?Thought they didn’t come till 73 with the plastic grill & two spoke steering wheel updates
The bloke who originally put this F89 brochure on the internet reckons it dates from 1971:

The 89 was launched in late 1970, so Tiptop495’s assertion that the very first ones had the red cloth seats makes sense, in that the blue cloth seats may have arrived some time in 1971.Bloody Volvos- so far, we have become confused over the power output of the engines, the position of the windscreen wipers, the number of wheelstuds, the availability of right-hand steering wheels on 89s, the radiator grille on F88-250s, now even the colour of the seats. Why do we do this to ourselves?
hey Anorak, OH YES WE CAN,the braking system, which changed ever year or nearly,AND the different country systems.
The braking system manual has only about 100 pages !!!
But if you deep out the scannies you will encounter the same confusions.
bye and a good sleep Eric,
Might aswell have the full set - i remember when the brown trim came out , thought they were quite luxurious for the time with the carpeted bonnet + footwells & the heated mirrors

That brochure might have been from 1973. It only had the legend “1971” added, I think.
Regarding Scanias- I do not think they made as many confusing detail changes as Volvo. The wipers were always in the same place, the wheels were always 10 stud (I think!), they always had left and right steering options on all models, transmission improvements were denoted by a change in the name of the gearbox/axle and the interior was blue/grey until 1975, when it became brown. Even the engine power was well-documented, and the engine options were Europe-wide (although I think the 305bhp 111 may not have been sold in the UK). The only question I have seen on this forum, which I could not answer, concerned different-shaped gear knobs. Oh, and I read that there was a special blue-trimmed luxury version of the 1 series cab- is this right?
Hi Stupot, thanks for this photo of Drakards 290.The 290 I had (in the Bleckman colors)was originally ordered by Phil Drakard from duffields of norwich. They passed the truck over to the company I was working for as the F10 was coming out and they did,nt want to loose money cancelling the order.I knew most of the Drakards driver,s Oscar an Nugget and other,s by sight as we all pulled for Britt European in the 70,s.Your photo brought back some good time memories for me,thanks.

hey Anorak, don’t believe too much, a bit off topic.
First 76 had the 75 gearbox.
First few months of the 110 it had still the 76 backaxle and gearbox.
And don’t speak about the last 110’s and the first 111’s
The last 111/141 had already the 112/142 gearbox.
First 112/142 still had the 111/141 engine
And about the trim’s there were a lot more, first 110 and very early 140 had still the old styl black imitation seats.
But you could find 76 models with the red cloth covered seats.
If Scania brought a new model on the marked it had nearly always some parts of the previous model for a few months, and the outgoing model already for a short time parts of the new coming model.
But yes, Scania switshed not so much with the trims (but depended from country to country).
So not to be too very enthusiastic.
It’s very easy to fill up a new topic about this and that.
Cheers Eric,
when you 21 your not bothered if its blue or brown as long it as 16speed box and does 70 mph plus happiness

Hey Anorak, it are all the first F88 models so maybe the brochure is from early '68 and they drove Scania’s too but only 76’s.
And think they wanted a new Scania on the brochure too,and prefered a new model■■?
That’s only what I think.

I was trying to work out why they would do that, and your explanation beats anything I could think of! According to your earlier post, those are 1965 F88s- could they be L4956’s? They do not have the vent behind the door- was this on all L4951/6’s?

Hey, It is difficult to see but maybe there is a 4951/6 between them, but maybe is the whole brochure a drawing??
But as I already have shown the model pic’s,all had a vent on the left hand side till the wipers came down at the end of '69, ('70 model). And on the right there was only a time in it’s good year of building live the 4951 had a vent on the right.
On the 4951 pic’s you will see only 2 of the 3 which had a vent on the right.
If you have questions about the model( shoped) Pic’s don’t wory to ask.

Hey Kaiser, no it’s a pic (or dawing) advertisement of Bilspedition of '68
It’s a Volvo F88 which is touched up as a Scania LB110 to show they drove Scania’s too, or to satisfy a customer and maybe there weren’t still yet 110’s in service, and a LB76 would have looked to old fashioned. That’s what I think.
Because the LB76 sold very well as the first Swedish forward control, but fell like a stone after lunch of the Tiptop Volvo
So it wouldn’t be very up to date to present an 76 along an F88.
Bye Eric,
an unusual one.
Late 70’s ex Consett BRS (I think) F88 converted at BRS Darlington into a recovery vehicle, replacing a 1959 Leyland Beaver and 1946 Diamond T, and would be joined by a Mammoth Major tanker conversion.
