Brady’s had 3 F88’s and so did Athersmith’s (owned by Brady’s)
Frank will be able to confirm this Steve,The Big’un always bought motors and trailers in sixes,he once told me that he would set off doing a deal for one and then gradually keep adding another, all the while he kept wittling down the price so by the time he got to the sixth he had the first ones price even lower than when he started !! Jack told me that no matter how good a deal he thought he could get The Big’un could always get a few more quid off the price,he said “I don’t know how the big jammy bugger does it Son” Cheers Dennis.

He must have bung em a few crates of Marshs’s’s sass.
This is a shot of the first two F88’s that joined the Bewick fleet in early '76,our assistant transport manager the late Mick Wilson is stood proudly in fron’t of them! He loved the F88,unfortunately he was only 41 when he passed away in Jan '78,great loss to his family and we lost a good pal and employee.I took a leaf out of The Big’uns book when I did the deal for these F88’s,Taits the Volvo dealers had been pestering me for a while so I got one hell of a deal off them for one 88,then I said OK but I need two ! at first they baulked and said they could only do the first one at the agreed price the second would be somewhat dearer,so I says well forget it then I’ll carry on with the Atkis and ERF’s and probably a few Scanias !! “Two it has to be then” was their response !! We never ran many Volvos in the fleet over the years,Taits were a great firm though until Volvos took them over directly,I just couldn’t get on with the arrogant ■■■■■■■■ every time I bought the odd Volvo off them they got a right tough time.Getting “blood out of a stone” was the deals I did with them occaisionally !! Cheers Dennis.

They reckon that after Bradys took over Marshes their Sass went a bit “watery”,it was the Big’un leaving the hosepipe running into the Sass tank !! Dennis.

He used to just have a pee anywhere so I thought you were going to say he topped it up his self.

Now you come to say that Steve it did taste a bit “dodgy” at times !!
Bewick:
A refurbed F88 ready to start a second life in the Bewick fleet.
Evening all, Dennis, not to criticise, but the thing that made me fall out with so many “painters”, was that they used to finish the area behind the grill in the same colour as the equivelent cab steelwork. I always asked that the grill area, F86,88,89, be finished in matt black, it gave (in my opinion), a more purposeful look to the lorry!!!
And I always wanted “my” lorries to look their best!!
I shall take on board a little Bollinger, to refresh my cooling system, you know painters could paint…but rarely could they see the overall finish!!! Bye bye for now.
This is a shot, probably a little later than the Bewick shot, of a K.Fell F88 at the time it had just been refurbed and leaving the depot, with the inside of the grille “blacked” ! From what I could find in later shots the Bewick F88 never seemed to have had the “black” applied !
Bewick:
Fair comment Lads,I’ll have to have a look at some other shots and see if the “inside” of the grille was painted black later on ! Dennis.
Just a personal opinion, but if im honest the colors looked good on which ever wagons you had.
Steve.
Thanks for the kind comment Steve ! Dennis.

Found one that has been refurb’d properly “Saviem”,this was origionally a K.Fell motor when new but it was re-painted and put into the Bewick fleet at a later date with the inside of the grille correctly “Blacked” out ! Cheers Dennis.
Ive noticed on your F88’s that they seemed to have “Catwalk” fuel tanks , the K fell motor had one even though it looks to have had the large main tank .
Was it just your own spec to have them or was there another reason ?
