Even if you are plugged into the master socket, you should try cutting off the wires you don’t need. I think you leave just 2 and 5 but check the link. Also, I find that if my connection slows down, then power down your modem then re connect. Hope this helps.

Yes you get them over the counter. You have to pay for the modem unless you take a longer contract. I took 18 months at £15 a month for 3gb a month. Never got anywhere near that though.

many thanks to all who have responded. He changed the modem the next day and is coming round here today to let me have another look. I think that the fact that he has Norton security on the machine may be responsible for making it slow. I will delete it and install the free version of AVG on there as I know that doesn’t affect the speed of the machine, and in my opinion is far more effective on stopping threats. I had problems with Norton which they seemed unconcerned about helping me resolve (plus the added problem that I don’t speak Hindi so was unable to understand the people who man their helplines) so I ditched it and now have the commercial version of AVG internet securities, and it is great, it even found a trojan horse on my desktop immediately after it was installed which Norton hadn’t detected at all (which I suspect might have been at the root of my problems with the Norton Installation, which kept turning it’s protection off without letting me know about it, thereby leaving me vulnerable to threats unknowingly)

I’ve got a 1 gig plan - never get anywhere near it !! but only use email and forums - 2-3 days a week mainly when I’m taking a 45
I USE 3 ON £10 PER MONTH (sorry caps) i went into carphone warehouse and signed up for 18 month contract with free modem. all you need is a credit/debit card with your pin number for proof of id. you also need bank details to set up direct debit. so far i have used it all over the country and not had a problem with connection. also not been anywhere near the load limit cos any downloads /updates etc i do at home via wireless.
if you just want to surf and check mail etc then its good value for money.

Mine was delivered today.
After ■■■■■■■■■■■ about to get the “adult content contoller” (■■?) lifted I fired it up and seems okay. I didn’t expect it to be as quck as the all singing, all dancing wireless broadband wifi gigagiggle thing we have in the house, but it was certainly faster (and more reliable) than plugging my mobli into the laptop via USb cable then dialling up (■■?) the interwebdotcom. AND - for fifteen of your earth pounds a month, it will be better than the 200++ bills I’ve had in the past 
This new woman I’m tangled up with has sime sort of “issues” about bills

A quick update on my mates Vodaphone modem saga. He came round yesterday with the replacement modem and I deleted Norton and installed the free version of AVG anti virus etc. I had to do it this way as Norton wouldn’t let me download AVG (I wonder why 
) and will be installing the commercial version of AVG, with all the extras,l when the package arrives in the next few days. This certainly seemed to speed things up and it wasn’t that much slower than when I connected it to my wireless broadband home conection. I have got to say that as I don’t have a laptop of my own and my desktop computer is connected to the router by a cable I didn’t appreciate how much slower the computer is when connected wirelessly. Things certainly seem to be working more as I would have expected now on the laptop and my mate seems to be happier with it than at first. Once again, thanks for all the replies on here and I certainly seem to have started a topical thread.

I’ve used the bbc i player but downloaded on my laptop at home to watch later in the week and 4 hours 15 minutes equalled 2 gig.
I`m posting and browsing this away from home on a T-mobile internet connection. Its showing hsdpa connected and is fast enough for me.
Too many problems IMO.
Content control keeps on coming up restricting me from visiting sites.
My GF is a Filipina and the entering the word “Philippines” stopped me from even finding out about flights.
Vodafone admitted this is a big problem for them.
Go for “3”. Same price, a bit slower but no restrictions

Sat at Hull loading. Connected via the Vodafone Dongle thing.
No problems.
Speed comparable with wifi broadband at home. Just logged on at one of my “other” sites - Content Controller nor an issue.
Got my Vodafone modem stick today and all is well, only used it around northampton so fare but seems reliable, even in doors with three walls and a small window and trees in garden still getting decent reception.
More likely to be high kb’s a second inside rather than mb’s but still better than dial-up which i have now cancelled from BT plus my dial-up subscription so it even works out cheaper. 3gigs a month £15.

got a “3” stick on the 1 gig download limit (i can always change up but not down) as i am an existing customergot it for 1/2 price £5/month
this is my first night out with it but i have to say it is faster than i get on my landline
my line only supports upto 2 mbps
currently at 3.6 mbps sat in a layby on the A9
no problem with signal also tried at Gretna same speed
all in all fantastic value for money (who cant afford £5/month)
and highly recommended
ive had my vodafone modem for 2 months.i can get a signal everywhere and anywhere.ive had no problems whatsoever.its a bit slow if youre not in a 3G area,but when you are its nearly as fast as cable internet :open_mouth: well worth 15 notes a month for 3GB .id recommend it to everyone 
After reading this thread decided to take the plunge and went for the T Mobile dingle dangle dongle!!
Currently parked up at Wooley Edge and its flying
