Vienna parking in the 80s

Greg Wallace has just been on the telly at the Vienna christmas market, That make me think!!
.
I am trying to recall the name where we all parked in Vienna, it was near the funfair, I looked on google but it comes up as Prater park.
.
I do not remember it by this name, something Garten if I recall. Any help would be appreciated.
.
Whilst on Vienna, Do you remember using channel 16 on your CB, that was the city tram frequency, the tram people got well annoyed when we called up on 16, The more they demanded we stop the more we spoke, good times heh…

Are you thinking of The Tier Garten by any chance.
I remember most drivers calling it The Prater or The Stadium, I am sure that it was a football stadium where the parking area was cobbled all the way around. The strange thing was that all the western drivers, Brits, Dutch, Swedes, Danes etc. all parked around one side of the stadium nearest to the park and all the Commie Block drivers Hungarian, Bulgarian, F Troop, the Russians along with the Turks all parked together around the other side.
The Prater was known at the time for having the biggest Ferris Wheel in the world and if ever you see the film The Third Man you can see several shots of the area.
I hope this helps but now you have got me thinking what was the name of the bar which all the driver used to use, did we call it Mamma’s.

I used to park in the street around the Messe Wien (exhibition halls) which were adjacent to the Wurstelprater - known more commonly as The Prater. Never knew about ch 16 on the CB. Extraordinary city.

Vienna is easily my favourite capital city. I was often weekended there when working for a LKW Walters subbie. I used to drink at the Crossfield Pub in the city centre. Normally I would seek out an Irish pub when weekended but this one was/is Australian.
