ventimiglia

Hi all going to mugello race track next week going through the border at ventimiglia along autovia towards pisa reason why this way is because trailer is 4.3 does any one now off any low brides this way whent to monza a couple of weeks ago through the frijus loads of prob any info at all will be great thank have a good week end

I don’t know about low bridges, but I seem to remember there where a few tunnels tunnels.
I’m not sure if you work for a team or just a privater racer, but really if you’re going to do a lot more European it might be worth getting another trailer or renting one for the events. Engineers Office - Racetrailer.com
You could get somebody else to move them, CARS do a lot of that, http://www.carseurope.net/ although they’re not cheap.
The team I work for can also offer a race/test transport and support service, but sadly we’re heading off as well next week.

Might be worth checking on the tunnels, as there are dozens of them on the Menton-Ventimiglia route  Robert

I can’t understand why somebody would cause additional problems for themselves by running a 4.3m trailer in Europe [emoji53][emoji53][emoji53][emoji53]

I imagine it’s a race team or privater racer, and they’ve been racing in the UK and have bought or converted a 4.3m trailer for their use, but they’re now doing a bit of European racing, they might have now realised it’s a problem, but race trailers aren’t cheap even secondhand and converting a trailer takes time and money and trying to shift a 4.3m one isn’t easy as most teams will want something they can use in Europe.

All you’ve got to do is balance the cost of a 4m trailer or paying for transport with the issues that could be caused by straying off route ( diversion etc) & into a whole world of €€€€
Just a couple of weeks ago I was coming back from Italy about 2200 local time & the autoroute was closed so I followed the diversion near annemasse & there was a 4.2m bridge with no signs until the bridge & absolutely nowhere to turn…mine runs at 4m outside the UK so no problems but it just goes to show how things can change.

I know what you’re saying and I personally would refuse to drive it, and if these races are one offs then it would be advisable to either hire the correct size trailer or get the cars or bikes, transported. I did give some links to the op for renting or hiring,
We could do it for them as we do a bit of transport work, and have right O’licence and insurance, but we’re away next weekend.

but as for the cost, changing trailers is going to be expensive especially as it’s going to take time to shift the 4.3m trailer, so they’d need the money for the 4m trailer up front and they aren’t cheap even secondhand.

for example, we have a 2002 trailer built by Chereau (they used to build race trailers based on a fridge trailer.) The trailer is nothing flash, but tidy (and a far more solid bit of kit than many of the very expensive bespoke built ones), it’s still worth about £60,000. You can get a tatty trailer for less, but then you’re looking at something that might not be very reliable or will need a lot of work to get it up to standard. If they have a good trailer another option might be chopping it slightly, I know people who’ve done this to convert a double deck, trucking type, trailer to a racecar transporter.

… trailer is 4.3 …

Hi babet,

Apart from the physical ‘will I get through X tunnel,’ which is difficult enough, but IMHO you’re looking at another world of problems (fines for lots of €€€€) in Italy, because the height limit is normally 4m.

I’d guess that you’ll probably get to Ventimiglia OK, because France doesn’t have a defined height limit.

You can see for yourself :arrow_right: HERE in this link

Babet…How did you get on …Update would be appreciated Regards …Tony
